Ski to Ship Lake Pass

This will be a ski tour from Glenn Alps to Ship Lake Pass. We will head out from the Glenn Alps parking lot shortly after 10 am, expect to be out for 5-6 hours.  This is an 'out-and-back' trip, so some people may choose to go part way to the pass.

You will need: skis, skins, poles, appropriate clothing, food and drinks for the day.  A thermos full of warm tea or hot chocolate can be great on one of these trips.  Please make sure your skins/skis/boots/poles are all in good shape.

If you plan to join for the later ski tours from Arctic to Indian or Arctic to Bird, or Glenn Alps to Indian, this is a great way to meet other people and do a shake down on your gear.  It is also a great way to find ski partners who are similar speed, and to discuss future trips.

Metal edged skis are recommended, although I know some people will do this without.  Most any skis will work - tele, A.T., light or heavier.

Three of us are co-leading this trip, so if there is a larger group we can split up.

The parking at Glenn Alps can be crowded, if you want to car pool, meet in the coffee shop at Carrs Huffman at 9:30

I had fun and am glad we continued all the way to the pass, despite questionable snow coverage. The ski out was better than expected, except for the angry moose.

Thanks everyone! Cold day, but calm most of the way, we even had some sun up on the pass. Some people headed back early, some of us went to the pass and back, and Dwight skied all the way home (downtown) after going to the pass with us!

No worries everyone. We will go do our own thing. Have fun.

New to the area so not too many ideas of where to go, but lots of experience.

There is a loop that starts at Prospect Heights then circles up to Glen Alps then back down (8.5mi ish). It is in the trees for the most part and away from the slopes. Or... if that doesn't sound appealing we could start at Glen Alps and head back to the Williwa Lakes area. The avalanche danger might be a little higher back there because you will be traveling through the valley. I only have XC skis so I won't be able to do too much elevation. Hit me up on my e mail if you are interested, [masked].

FYI - MCA policy states that no dogs are allowed on trips unless it's okay with the leader(s) and we don't allow dogs on our ski and bicycle trips. I have been tripped up by dogs before while bombing down hills and sure don't enjoy it.

Hey everyone, I would love to join you, but I was wondering if anyone would mind if I brought my 4yr old Lab along. She is very well behaved, and has been neglected over the last two weeks (Finals). I would feel guilty if I didn't take her out this weekend. If there are any objections please feel free to let me know. Otherwise I will see everyone up at the parking lot.

I'm not a dog fan, but well-behaved labs are the exception. Craig, does your dog stay off people's skis? Anyway- leaders' call.

Hey Myke, I haven't heard much about the coverage, but there is some chance of a ding. Just so you know - there are a few turns, but this is mostly rolling or flat touring, split boards are welcome, but might not be the best for this sort of trip.

How's the coverage up there? Before the last dump I mean. Just got my split tuned and don't wanna beat it up too bad first time out.

I think I remember hearing Charlie say he wants to beef up his trail breaking skills so he offered to break trail most of the day. Yippeee!!!
