Wines 35 and Up - Dinner and a Movie - Somm Blind Tasting and Food Pairings

We wanted to get this one on the calendar now. We are going to do something a little different this time. Matt and I will provide 4 reception wines for a blind tasting. You will taste these wines blind and guess what you think they are. Each guest will still bring a 35 and up wine although this time instead of a particular theme you bring the food that matches the wine you are bringing. Don't worry too much there are lots of Websites to help you with this. Some of the best pairings I've had at wine pairing dinners are the ones that people either searched a Website or got a recommendation from their wine shop. Have fun with this - it's a blast. If you need help just ask.

Totally agree - great people, wine and food - what could be better - even great to see the critter join in the fun. Bet he would have liked some of the great bread.

I think another 2 people are coming she is in the wine industry so if everyone comes we are looking at 20 wines plus my 4 blinds there will be a dump bucket. I also got new dishwasher safe tasting glasses and measured porters.

Sorry I'm getting back so late. We are bringing 2009 Schlossberg Riesling and 2011 Chateau Montelena Zinfandel. I am making an Indian beef curry with rice and tandoori chicken.

Are you taking any more guests? I just found out about the party. I can bring Pineau des Charentes (wine blended with cognac). It is good as an aperitif and I was going to serve with a triple creme blue cheese and crackers

I am bringing salmon and had some last night done on my gas grill - works well.

    The wines are:
    2011 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay
    2011 Ridge Chardonnay
    2011 Stags Leap Cabernet

I am very familiar with all above wines but wanted to have 2 of 3 whites so I elected to bring the Ridge Chardonnay. Knowing Paul Draper and his wines - the chadonnay will be very good also.

Am also bringing winery provided tasting notes - since none of these wines are French no Robert Parker or marvin shanken ratings are available.

wow tzatziki and dolmades - glad u didn't choose a retsina - an acquired taste if u like turpentine.

brings to mind Mykonos and Santorini.

    June 24, 2014

  • Carol N.

Tami, for food, I'm bringing dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) with tzatziki sauce, both from my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. To pair with them, I'm bringing a red - a 2009 Bodegas Muga Seleccion Especial Riserva Rioja from Spain. It was rated 92 by Robert Parker and 95 by the Wine Spectator. I know nothing about Spanish wines, but am hoping for the best!

WOW that is the best cabernet Napa has to offer - I will bring a 2011 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay. I just called Hinton's and they only have the 2011 - would prefer the 2010 as 2011 was a difficult year in Napa.

Anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find a 2010.

Hope some of you know the signifigance of these two wines.

    June 22, 2014

  • Tami H.

I am going to do a tasting sheet so would like to know the wines. Also to balance out food would be good to give folks an idea I will be doing cajun salmon, a green salad and a chocolate dessert to pair with 2010 Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon still debating our wine to go with the salmon.

I am about to bake a piece of salmon in my gas grill - good way not to heat up your home. again i have all the necessary tools - even a lemon squeezer!

    June 21, 2014

  • butch b.

Well I brought salmon to Roger's do and wow was it incredible - Roger said it was vastly better than brisket and i agree. So I hope 2 salmon dishes will not be a problem - there were not even scraps left at Roger's place.

Will bring an appropriate wine - it will be in a brown paper sack and if appropriate, I would also like participants to try and identify this one also.

I will bring all the items necessary to bake the salmon - it takes about 20 minutes at 350 and bake till just flaky - like me.

Sounds interesting - so as I understand - we bring the wine and a food to accompany - I will definately be there - be something other than brisket this time. Love lamb - maybe a sonoma cabernet - they are much lighter.
