Join us Monday, January 21st, 2013, anytime between 5pm and 7 pm for a Complimentary German Wine Tasting at Sherlock's Wine Merchant- Buckhead (Northside Parkway) with Johannes Selbach, owner and winemaker at Germany's famed Mosel Estate, Selbach-Oster. We will taste 5 of the estate's tremendous wines as Johannes guides us through the range of both sweet and dry wines.

Selections from SELBACH-OSTER Estate to be tasted:
2010 Pinot Blanc Dry
2010 Zeltinger Himmelreich Kabinett
2008 Graacher Domprobst Spatlese (WA 91 - WS 91)
2008 Zeltinger Sonnehur Spatlese (91 WA - Ws 90)
2008 Bernkastler Badstube Eiswein (93 WA - 92 WS)

Come meet Sherlock's dear friend Mr. Johannes Selbach, a worldly traveler, a man with an impressive wealth of knowledge who loves to share it like none other. This is the perfect occasion to learn about German wines and particularly the versatility of the Riesling grape and its numerous food pairings possibilities including our own vidalia oignons!
Johannes is the man behind the iconic estate Selbach Oster.

About Selbach-Oster and the Selbach family:
The ancestors of the Selbach family have been cultivating Riesling since 1600. The Selbach family originated from the village "Ürzig" and the Oster family comes from the small village of "Zeltingen" on the opposite side of the river. Today, Johannes Selbach and his wife Barbara are running the winery with passion for the wines and in respect of the long tradition. The great-grandfather of Johannes owned a Mosel steamship and shipped his wines in oak barrels down the Mosel and the Rhine to the North Sea ports. These barrels again were made by Matthias Oster, a cooper and the great-grandfather on the paternal side of the family. Therefore, the winery developed in three fields, on one side as a top estate in the region and simultaneously on the other side as a négociant and brokerage firm, making wines from grapes and juice bought from other producers and consolidating the production of smaller producers, offering a broad and comprehensive range of fine German wines.

Such a delightful experience! The wines were the very best German wines I've had, with each successive wine even better than the one preceding (I wanted to marry the Eiswein!) Johannes Selbach, the owner of the winery, flew in from Germany w/his daughter Hannah & did a magnificent job of giving us insight into the joys & perils of his work, along w/easily understood explanations of labelling, terroir, tastes, & how vineyards right next to each other can produce different tasting grapes/wine with the same grape! Several people walked out w/multiple bottles & cases! New shipment to arrive @ Sherlock's Buckhead in 3 wks. Prices were $17, $20, $25, $25, & $73, respectively. He's working on a sparkling pinot noir blend & comes to that Sherlock's 1-2X/year, so keep an eye on this!
