Give a small bio of your outdoor experiences

I have been hiking, backpacking and summiting peaks for more than 40 years

What is the maximum altitude you can handle?

20,000 feet with supplemental O2

Are you familiar with the 10 essentials and how they change with different events?

The list of Ten Essential Systems now sets the standard. The System is not a kit to be carried and forgotten. Check Note above that they "change with different events"

What outdoor events do you prefer?

Hiking and backpacking and climbing in the wonderful Three Sisters Wilderness so close to Bend.

Is your activity pace slow, medium or fast?

Once the fastest marathon runner on any hiking and climbing trip, I am now content to hike at a social pace with folks who are not on the adventure to test and train their personal aerobic capacity.

Hello, my name is Bob Speik and I have been hiking, backpacking and summitting peaks for more than 40 years. I have a website called www.TraditionalMount I have been a very popular adult education instructor at COCC if I say so myself!

What Robert S. is saying about this Meetup Group

There are about 680 members of this Meet-Up Group! Join us on an Outing! Folks, don't be shy about asking the Leaders about the purpose of the particular outing: Will we hike at a "social pace" keeping the group together (or will this be an extention of a daily fittness program for the best aerobic folks). How much elevation gain and loss will there be? What is the time frame? Is the trip weather dependent? What is the footing - cross country scrambles or slippery scree, as on the Smith Rock trails and South Sister, or dusty desert trails, soft to the foot? Are we hiking together or just carpooling together and going at our own pace and returning to the parking place at a given time? There are all kinds of hiking trips! Many are a fit for you! Be sure your experience and fittness level fit in with the Leaders' group by candidly questioning the Leaders. Then, if you say you are going, go! You may be keeping others from a spot.
