Subject: [hiking-309] New Event: Snowshoe hike

Announcing a new event for The Bend Hiking Meetup Group!

What: Snowshoe hike

When: Saturday, December 15, 8:00 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Event Description: Join us for a snowshoe hike.

Meet at 8am at the Starbucks on Century Drive. (Not the one inside Safeway!)

The actual hike destination and length will depend on the snow and weather conditions.

You will need a pair of snowshoes. A reasonable pair will cost around $200. I happen to like the MSR shoes but any moderate priced pair will do fine. Alternatively, you can rent from any of the outdoors shops. You will need a good pair of boots. Snowshoeing in trail running shoes is not recommended. You will also need a pair of gaiters.

If it is really cold, thermals can be a good idea.

Snowshoeing can be hard work so don't encumber yourself with a huge heavy parka. Wear layers so you can adjust your clothing to the conditions. Bring a rucksac so you can carry extra clothing.

We will probably hike for 3 to 4 hours but it is impossible to say how far we will go. Everything depends on the conditions on the day.

See you.
