Re: [hiking-309] Need more leaders

Hello Tom and Hazel-
I can lead some hikes in the Fall, on the level and at a social pace, off trail in The Badlands and to some of the local buttes south and east of Bend.
I can even take four others in my classic red Jeep Cherokee. Believe me, I have all the maps and I have been there before.
More soon. I am off to the Hart Mountain Antelope Preserve to pull fence for a week with ONDA.

Subject: [hiking-309] Need more leaders

The group has been active for more than a year and I think it has been a great success. It is clear that there is a demand in Bend for a group like this. We have almost 150 members and hikes usually attract around 15 participants.

For the past year Hazel and I have set up and led all the hikes. Unfortunately, my job demands a large amount of travel and I am increasingly unable to devote every second Saturday to group hikes. I need additional organizers who are willing to plan hikes and lead the group.

Can I have a couple of volunteers? The qualifications are pretty simple; you need to know the trails, you need to be fit enough to lead the group and you need to be confident enough to deal with the inevitable minor mishaps that occur from time to time. Let me know - and maybe we can get together next week to talk about it.

I still intend to lead hikes and participate as often as I can - but I need to share the load.
