A pre-Veteran's Day photo walk around some very photogenic memorials.
This is a social photo walk to some of the memorials surrounding the Reflecting Pool. The November weather tends to be mild (mid-60's F), and the main tourist season will be past, so hopefully we'll get some good clear shooting.
From the meet-up point we'll walk to the Vietnam Memorial, a beautifully moving tribute to that war, elegant in its simplicity. From there we'll head over to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the Tidal Basin, before going to the Korean War Memorial. We'll continue east along the Reflecting Pool to the World War II Memorial with it's beautiful fountains, pillars and great view west across the Reflecting Pool to the Lincoln Memorial, and east looking up at the Washington Monument.
Equipment: A wide-angle will be useful to catch the scope of some of these memorials. A zoom is also useful for shooting across the Reflecting Pool of Tidal Basin. You may want a tripod or monopod for longer exposure shots as the sun starts setting. The memorials are generally well lit for low light shooting, though the Vietnam Memorial has minimal lighting after dark.
Sunset will be about 6:02PM, and will be setting behind the Lincoln Memorial.
Travel: Driving time from Charlottesville is about 2.5-3 hours. Parking can be a challenge, though I've had good luck finding parallel parking spaces along Constitution Avenue. The closest metro stop is Foggy Bottom, it is just under a mile walk from that station to Lincoln Memorial. I suggest carpooling.
This meetup is weather-dependent, and may be cancelled or rescheduled for adverse weather.
