December Book Club - Holiday Party - Potluck and Yankee Swap

  • Dec 9, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Read, Meet, Talk and Enjoy! ...that's what we do with the books at our monthly gatherings.

It's a wonderful group of ladies who meet and discuss the book of the month.  We meet at each others' homes and learn, laugh and get to know each other. We select books based upon participating member suggestions. If you enjoy reading and expanding your horizons...join us!

The schedule for the books we will be reading through April 2015 (as well as all of the books we have read previously) can be found under the "More" tab in the "Files" section.

Our December book club is a little different than the rest of the year.  We will discuss the book of course.  It is also our holiday "book club" party (not to be confused with the holiday party for the club which is schedule for Friday Dec. 6.)

I will provide beverages for the group.  Everyone should bring a dish to pass and a book for our Yankee Swap.  Books may be new or gently used.  We love to have each person tell why they selected the book they brought.

We will also start talking about the book selection process for May 2015-April 2016. Our current plan is to have everyone suggest at least 3 books they would like to read in a variety of genres.  Once we have compiled a list, everyone will vote for 12 books.  The top 12 books will be our reading list for the next year.

We also need volunteers for Hosts and Facilitators starting in January and going forward.  Please check your calendar for the second Tuesday of the upcoming months to see where you can participate.

Complicated - Meetup won't keep me logged on even tho the box is checked, so I can't reply to emails - YES Jayne and Robin, come at 5:45! I'll drive. Be careful on the ice in the driveway unless it melts before then. Pull in on the left side of the driveway so I can back out.

4 Lori Drive - off Jordan avenue closer to Bath Rd than to Federal - take a right coming from Federal, 1st left coming from Bath Rd

BE CAREFUL walking on the driveway! And to whoever gets here first, there IS a driveway to the left of my car, but it does have some snow on it.

I was really looking forward to tonight, but have opted for some down time, to decorate my own house...rather than risk driving an hour late tonight to return home in what could possibly be icy roads...even though they are fine now. I'm sure you will all have fun!

    • Laura R

I just left to go do an errand...it's very slippery underfoot here in Portland now, too. :-(

My drive and the road are impossible. I'm in Gray, and the weather is not cooperating. Very sorry to miss the gathering. What will I do with all these sandwiches?

    December 9, 2014

  • Jude P.

I packed up and headed out, but, like Christy's, my driveway

  • Christy H.

I knew there was a reason I missed living on the coast... My driveway here in Farmingdale is one big sheet of ice, so it does not appear to be a prudent move to leave my snug house tonight. I am sorry to miss this evening!

Still Alice is in the queue for the Eveningstar but it probably will not get here until January. I will keep the book club posted.

Geez - the first time I try to get to a book club meeting and the weather is not looking nice...

Is this event still on with the weather they are predicting?

Does anyone want to carpool from the Brunswick Hannaford? Please don't make me drive down those dark, rainy roads all by my little old self.

    1 · December 7, 2014

    • Robin J.

Gale and Jayne, I would love to carpool with you too if possible. Where can I meet you?

      1 · December 9, 2014

so, thoughts on The House of Mirth? I am so glad I found it on disk

    November 20, 2014

I found this book free online. However, when I look at it, it appears to be extremely loooong. How many pages is the actual book? It also says Book One and Book Two?!
    I will post a couple pics/screenshots.
