    Yes, trying to understand them is helpful. If you try to hurt them back, the pain just goes on. There is no "relief" in "revenge" or trying to find it in revenge. From someone who "knows".

    "The true mark of maturity is when someone hurts you and you try to understand their situation instead of trying to hurt them back."

    Good advice for anyone.

      Incidentally, that reminds me of a quote by Stephen Fry. He basically says "that offends me" is a go-to phrase nowadays. We often look for things to be angry about instead of just letting go.
