Our Own Little Medieval Folk Band

"The Left Bank" has formed a little medieval/folk band. We'll rehearse every Monday night at 7:30pm at Michael's house (occasionally at other musicians' homes). What kind of music do we like? Medieval, Renaissance, Celtic, folk, experimental--a mix of acoustic stuff. We're also interested in combining music and nature--playing on branches, stones, creating our own sounds, etc. We're looking for any kind of acoustic instruments and singers, guitars, lutes, banjos, harps, flutes, tin whistles, harmonicas, cellos, bass, viola de gambas, violins, fiddles, mandolins, tambourines, medieval instruments, percussions and winds, harpsichord, piano.... You don't have to be an expert musician to join. Just have a good ear, basic music/chord reading skills and a love for acoustic music!

You can download and print "Our Songbook" by clicking on "More" on top of this page, then "Files." Our Songbook is used at parties as well as for our little medieval/folk rehearsal. It includes rock songs, medieval songs and sailor songs. We'll update it regularly, stay tuned. If you want to add songs to it, please email Helene at [masked] and send your file. Please include chords, words and preferably music sheet as well in the file.

Here are a few examples of music we enjoy (click on titles):

Lamento di Tristan e Rotta

Helene and Herbert's duet at the Tower of Songs

Fairport Convention

Planxty

Sailors songs

Kirk plays the tin whistle with Jared in Barker Valley.

Don't know if my message got posted or not, I got distracted. But I'm so sorry I was unable to attend, just couldn't help it. Helene, sent you an email a bit earlier tonight. Collin, you made it! I wish I had been there with everyone this evening. I'll be there next week.

We can amplify as long as it's not loud.

This sounds like a really cool event and I look forward to participating. However, I tutor in Irvine until 7:45, so I will probably be half an hour late. Hope that's ok.

I'll bring my French horn, four octave harmonium, modified acoustic guitar, and my accordion (which I don't yet play super well.) I have an acoustic-electric bass guitar, but it has to be amplified to really be heard, and I understand that is against the rules.

Let's find a good name for our Monday folk/medieval band. Have been proposed:
    Left Bank Balladeers
    The Left Bankees
    The Left Banksters
    Left Blank
    What the Left
    Riders of the Left Bank
