Hike in Chino Hills State Park (Yorba Linda)

Day Hike in Chino Hills State Park.

Meet by 9:00 am sharp at the Rimcrest Trailhead entrance to Chino Hills State Park located in North Yorba Linda.  We will hike up Telegraph Canyon on a wide trail where rabbits run and bobcats hunt, in an open space of fragrant, quiet hills, away from civilization.  Following the bed of a small creek, we'll meander amidst chaparral, sage bush and black walnut trees, reach a grove of sycamores and canyon live oaks, observe wildlife such as quails, hawks, snakes and gophers.  We may explore side canyons, admire trees, flowers, valleys and snow-capped mountains, encounter birds, insects, reptiles and mammals.  We will have lunch, may also relax and chant, play music and do a little yoga if you wish.  Hike length will be adapted to participants (5-8 miles).  Don't be shy, you can do it!

Directions: From the 91 FWY, take Imperial exit, Drive North and make a Right on Kellog Dr., turn Right on Yorba Linda Blvd, turn Left on Fairmont Blvd.  Shortly after you pass Bastanchury Blvd,  make a Left on Rimcrest Ave. Drive all the way to the end of the street.  Park in the residential neighborhood, making sure you follow posted regulations.  Also see posts for carpooling.

What to Bring:  Water, lunch, hiking/tennis shoes, sweater, sheet for possible yoga practice, light musical instruments, first-aid kit.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate 5-8 mile hike with ups and downs on comfortable, sandy trails.  We will hike at medium pace and stop frequently as needed.  Stream bed crossings, poison oak and other risks inherent to Southern California hiking (rattle snakes, mountain lions, etc.)  The Left Bank declines liability for any injury.  Minors must be accompanied by a parent.

Cost: Free.
