Re: [naturalbuilding-41] Separating the Wheat from the Chaff

Peggy,

I actually know a little bit about the person who left this group and it really did not surprise me a whole lot.

The volume of my emails will begin to taper off at some point in the not to distant future. I am planting seeds. Some will take and some will not. This is to  be expected.

Regarding managing the volume of emails, the best way to handle this, although it has some drawbacks, mostly the inability to respond to certain threads in real time, is to set your email settings to daily digest mode. For those who prefer this approach, regardless of the volume, they will only get one email per day from this Meetup. People also have the option to not get any emails at all, and if they wish to read these emails at some point down the road, they can simply go to "discussions> click "mailing list" on the pull down menu and read the archives.

First, I would like to make it perfectly clear that although this is a globally focused Meetup group, it will also be locally focused as well. How we intend on accomplishing this will become evident as the strategic plan unfolds, so please continue to be patient with this process. The whole point will always be to translate this plan into action, off-line, on the ground, locally where it counts. Otherwise, I am wasting both my time and yours, and I'm not a fan of wasting my time.

Regarding the expectation of members of this Meetup. Many individuals think that permaculture is just about gardening. Those paying close attention, know otherwise. This group is focused on members that know otherwise. We will not however, exclude anyone who has yet to make this connection.

I'm really happy that you found an email solution that works for you. Thank you for sharing that, as your solution, might work for other members of this Meetup as well.

People will come and go with these groups.  The number one reason for leaving is that they are receiving more email than they can read and it's not a good time for them to prioritize it.  A close second would be that the group is not something they thought it would be.  They may have looked at it as a general chat room for learning how to garden, something very narrow and specific.
And a third reason would be that someone or a group of people have a conversation that says something they disagree with or don't want to hear (bantering, chit-chat, harsh negativity, all out fighting).

This group has stepped up the emails and many of them are very word dense.  I am thinking about copying and pasting some of them into a document to print out.  Much easier to read that much information in print and also if compiled and off the computer, I will have a higher chance to look it over more carefully.

I am still getting it clear what this group is evolving into.  If it is open to the Earth, and not just a local group, then how will that translate into action offline?  Some of what will be shared and discussed will apply to all, and some will apply to specific areas.  Although Sepp Holzer keeps coming into my head with his bananas in Austria!  And Geoff Lawton's greening the dessert, so I keep trying to check the limits at the door!  :-)

My schedule does not allow me to read all of what you're putting out at the pace it's coming in.  I welcome it for when I can read it, though.
I am pretty sure that most people on this group are in the same position.  Quietness out there does not necessarily denote lack of interest.

And I am VERY happy to show in this email that it seems that the glitch has been fixed with Yahoo email!  THIS is the size font I have been wanting, and not bolded!    :-)

Subject: [naturalbuilding-41] Separating the Wheat from the Chaff

Yesterday a member of this Meetup left this group. They gave no reason for doing so. When I know the reason for something happening, I have a chance to do something about it. If I don't know the reason, I have zero chance to do something about it.
So, this person who left this group, in a way is a good thing. It's what I call "separating the wheat from the chaff". You see, The Permaculture Guild Strategic Plan is real. This is not some video game. We intend on producing real results in the real world, where it counts.
Anyone who thinks that this is some imaginary game is missing the point of this Meetup group. This Meetup Group is for those who wish to play this game in the real world. The stakes are high, and the arena is as real as it gets. On this playing field, we separate the wheat from the chaff.
