Share, learn and network with fellow Product Managers at The Product Group.

Some topics to expect...
- When Things Go Wrong - Role of the Product Manager
- and more...

Featured Product: SummitSync

From Bridget McMillan, Associate Product Manager of SummitSync...
"SummitSync is a networking tool based on the Tinder model, where users join events or groups, and can only contact mutually interested parties.  Now that our product is on track and our users are swiping, we're eager to see them message, schedule meetings, and, of course, share us with their networks. It is important to us that ultimately people connect beyond their mobile devices and start collaborating."

Note: Please make sure your meetup.com information is up-to-date (incl. First & Last names). You will need to show ID matching the name you used to RSVP.

Hope to see you there!

Hi Everyone, it was great meeting you all last week. I really enjoyed the discussion. I haven't been to a product group meetup in about a year and after this last one I quickly remembered why I had been a regular. As I mentioned during the meetup I work for a fairly established startup Ad Tech company called Spongecell on their product team. We are currently hiring for a Solution Engineer Manager who would work between the Product and Client Services team. While there is a sales component to the position it is definitely a good dose of product work as well. Anyone interested can find more info here: https://careers.jobscore.com/careers/spongecell/jobs/solutions-engineer-manager-bBD2KIBL8r5OY3dG1ZS6tF

Hi Everyone! Last Thursday was my first meetup! I’m glad TPG was the first, as the conversations and format exceeded expectations. I’ll be back for the next one. A few mentioned the need for beta testers – I’m happy to help, just send me a message through Meetup or connect with me on linkedin.com/in/stuartkoziol.

I’m also curious what this group thinks of cover letters when applying for open positions? I’m getting advice from a deeply experienced HR colleague to include a cover letter, which I tend to agree, however I’m not sold on the tone of the cover letter. They suggest a fairly formal message – however for PM jobs, especially when looking to get into startups, I suspect a more personal and passion based tone would be a better fit. Thoughts? Thanks!

Also. Be careful with which recruiter you use. Make sure they fit your personality, REALLY understand what you do and represent you well. If they're annoying you, they're likely annoying the companies you want to work for. Seriously, I have learned this by trial and error. Ask people for good recruiters with known results. It can ruin a relationship with you and a company you want to work for.

    • Stuart K.

Thanks for the quick feedback Sarah and I love the email address idea! Mind if I ‘steal it’? I had similar experience with recruiters in the past as many adopt a spray and pray approach, its actually fairly uncommon to get recruiters who really understand your needs and that of the company’s that hired them. Sending you a separate message to see if you have any good recruiters to recommend, I can share some of mine. It helps to know several.

Hi all! It was great meeting many of you last night (and to those who asked for them, apologies for my running out of business cards). As I mentioned at the half-way mark, my company Powerlinx is looking for user testers! We recently closed our Series A in July and are really looking to hammer out the kinks in our UX as we move into our B round.

We're a B2B matchmaking platform that intelligently matches companies together based on their shared strategic growth objectives and goals. So if you're part of a company looking to grow and/or expand, we'd love to have you!

If any of you are interested, the test takes about an hour and we'll host you at our office on the 76th floor of the Empire State Building. Please feel free to contact me at [masked]. Looking forward to hearing from you!
