Sorry , I missed this conversation , I was one of the founders of this group with Saiqa , I used to run a similar golf meetup group and combined the members to make 1 london golf group .

I agree 100 % with David and Richard & Gabor, to play without any playing expereince/knowledge is bad for you , as you pick up bad habits and for others you are playing with as it is slow and dangerous !!

I only started 1 year ago and now have a handicap of 25 , I went for lessons and hit the driving range and than a par 3 courses before starting with real 18 hole courses. See you soon

OK, Richard. I assume then you are the one who arrange for this group. who is Andy then? I didn't receive any responses from him?
Richard, I understand from what you say that I shouldn't join this group. You mention that most driving ranges do lessons free and I just pay for the ball, can you give the name of a few so I go to them and learn? whatever i check on line is so expensive. Thanks for your kind way of telling me that this is not a right group for me, I definitely don't want to be in the wrong group. thanks.

Norma, Gabor is right - you can and should join this group if you want to play golf. The last thing I want to do is put off beginners! I'll PM you some thoughts - I don't want to take up Andy's event page with discussion.

Norma, I teach golf and the swing literally takes months to develop, often years. There is so much to learn, driving, approach shots, the short game, putting, bunker shots, then the is the safety aspect, etiquette, the rules. you would need to play at least 10 times somewhere with friends to then attempt playing with strangers on a strange course. i like playing with beginners, but i won't hold their hand and constantly tell them to replace divots, repair pitch marks etc... Also I wouldn't like to risk other people's safety with your wild slices etc..... Please respect the game, and learn from a teacher, pay for a course of 10 lessons and then you could play with dignity. But maybe you won't get the hang of it, that's always a possibility. I am here for advice if you need, no problem.

Hi Norma. I think you misunderstood Richard. He didn`t say that you shouldn`t join this group. On the contrary. They`re arranging group lessons and driving range sessions too. These are the type of activities you should attend first with this group. But playing on the course is nigh on impossible if you`ve never hit a ball before. I think it will be very wise of you to follow David`s and Richard`s advice. Once you completed a few coaching and practice sessions you should be able to come out and enjoy the game at least on a par 3 course and i`ll be more than happy to come and play with you and help you any way i can.

Hi Andy, can I pay when I come in cash? I promise I will come if you make this arrangement with me to pay when I see you. also I don't know Golf, but I am good at tennis. Is there any one to explain how the scoring is and what to do or no this is not a place for me and it is for those who know golf?

    January 11, 2013

    • Richard D

Norma, David is right. An 18 hole course would be very frustrating if you've not played before and I speak as recent starter. Most driving ranges do group lessons - some of them free, you just pay for the golf balls. Also, 9 hole par 3 courses are a lot easier and usually with more beginners so less people to annoy with slow play. When the weather gets better I'll try again at arranging a 9hole golf day on here.

Thanks Richard, I enjoy playing with beginners too, but it would need to be on an empty course, yet would't take a complete novice onto the course as it's too dangerous and many deep divots would be made. I hope Norma takes lessons first and is able to hit the ball at least 100 metres before playing with anyone. I teach beginners in Europe, and would enjoy playing with people here, totally for free and for fun.

Andy, if we can't play due to adverse weather conditions do we get our money back or not?
