"In a Republican Nation, whose Citizens are to be led by reason and persuasion and not by force, the art of reasoning becomes of first importance." Thomas Jefferson
The Weekly Talk is an 88-minute gathering featuring personal stories, collaborative learning, and meaningful social interaction — TALK.
Story —> Engage (22 minutes)
Lesson —> Discover (22 minutes + break)
Talk —> Connect (44 minutes + vote)
Story is an opportunity to share in someone’s experience.
Lesson analyzes a topic by answering a key question.
Talk is a guided discussion examining the lesson.
The Weekly Talk is designed to nurture critical-thinking. Great care will be taken to distinguish opinion from fact. Participants use reason and evidence to make and evaluate arguments before reaching a conclusion — knowing.
Talking Points are distributed with lesson outline, terms, resources, and “rules of engagement”. The intent is not to inhibit free expression but to improve our ability to learn and, when necessary, better “agree-to-disagree”.
The Weekly Talk is ultimately about becoming effective citizens, able to learn and work together — a living embodiment of our Nation’s founding motto: e pluribus unum — out of many, ONE.
