A contribution is required to cover the session costs - BMI members £1.00, non-BMI members £5.00. It would be great to see you there. Drop us an email if you're coming for the first time, otherwise feel free to drop in whenever suits BUT please go to our website to find our updated calendar of meetings; https://www.meetup.com/Theatre-in-Birmingham/events/ If you’re thinking of coming along for the first time, drop an email to Frank: [masked]. www.theatrebirmingham.co.uk About the session In these sessions we look deeper into why Words work, and how they can help us to understand our own world and the world around us. No acting experience is necessarily required as full direction will be given. As a group, we take a text and explore it through: • Analysing the words • Workshopping • Discussing what we have found out • Bringing to bear life lessons and insights • Exploring new ways of bringing the words to life The approach in every session is based around the work of leading practitioners such as: • Patsy Rodenburg • Sandford Meisner • Peter Brook • Cicely Berry The aim for these sessions is to discover new forms of creating and presenting Words by: • Taking the play The Tempest as our baseline and initial source of material (words, characters, themes etc.) • Workshopping an existing play (Tempest fugit) that was based on, and uses material from, Shakespeare’s The Tempest • Discovering a performance format that moves away from staging plays closer towards radio plays. About the Tuesday Evening Group We are an informal gathering of people who want to actively pursue their interest and love of Words. This is an opportunity to have fun and meet like-minded people, as well as get a greater appreciation of what Words can bring to us; all in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere! These sessions are open to everyone, regardless of experience – the only requirement is that you have an interest in Literature and Theatre. These are drop-in sessions, for people to attend as and when they wish Our members are a broad cross-section of people - interested theatre-goers, students of English Literature, theatre practitioners, young, old, not-so-old, general public, from all sorts of religious persuasions and walks of life. The main requirement is an enthusiasm to enjoy sharing and learning together.

What we're about

This is a group for all those who love Theatre and like to meet like-minded people:-

• If you like going to the Theatre, you will always have friends to go to with and to chat to in the bar before the show, during the interval and, if you're not in a rush to get off, afterwards. PLEASE NOTE: You get your own ticket for each event. The logistics of organising this centrally are prohibitive with too many variables. A link to the box office of each show will be included in the event description.

• If you want to better understand just what the magic of Theatre is all about, we will be including details of play reading sessions, socials, Theatre workshops, study days, theatre trip feedback sessions, training events, etc.

• Also we are a group that creates Theatre, set in and about Birmingham, and are always interested in talking to people who might wan to join us. We work a special form of Theatre that encourages people to take part in a way that reflects their interest and skills level.

For more details please visit our website: http://www.theatrebirmingham.co.uk

Theatre has such a diverse range of appeal and interest - musicals, comedies, experimental works, tragedies, classic plays, contemporary pieces, farce etc - that we look to all members to suggest and organise events that will appeal both to themselves and, hopefully, many other Meet Up members.

All in all, a great way to grow your interest whilst doing what you enjoy.

I look forward to enjoying some exciting Theatre productions and events!
