Re: [theater-124] Upcoming Productions

I just saw Lear at the Guthrie, so I am passing on
this one. I'm interested in Frank & Jungle
productions; interact sounds great and I love the
Southern. Ultimately, if I'm available I'll go to
almost anything. I would throw some Jeune Lune
productions in the lineup in the future too (I'm
seeing Fishtank tonight); I always love their
productions.

I won't be able to join you tomorrow night for Lear
(as I'm throwing a big Vernal Equinox party), but I
like this list of upcoming plays. I'd see any of
them, but if I have a choose a couple, I'd choose:

# 2 Frank Theatre: always an interesting production
from these folks

#4 Jungle Theatre: Let's see what the Pulizter likes
these days!

#5 Interact: It would be great to support Amy and the
company with which she works. Also, I've seen
"Circumference", and it's a terrific one-woman show!

FWIW: I am generally unavailable to go to theatre on
Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (prior
commitments).

I hope to join and meet all of you someday soon!

Subject: [theater-124] Upcoming Productions

Dear Theater Mavens:

On Friday, March 21, a subset of our theater meetup
group will be gathering for the first time since last
fall to see King Lear at Old Arizona. Our new
organizer, Tammy, has proposed that we talk about the
upcoming calendar after the play. To facilitate that
discussion, and to encourage input from those unable
to attend on Friday, I am listing 11 productions that
will be running between now and the end of April (and
beyond for some). I chose them because I have already
agreed to volunteer at some (dates noted) or have sent
out a request to volunteer. I encourage you to check
their websites, any reviews you can find online or in
print, and your calendars; and to advocate for your
preference(s). I have no opinion as to how many events
might be prudently scheduled each month, but if
enthusiasm is reasonably high I don't think two is too
many. (Drum roll...) The list:

(1) Illusion Theater (www.illusiontheater.org) --
Mrs. Mannerly (March 14 - April 12)(I'm working on
March 27 and April 5.)
(2) Frank Theatre (www.franktheatre.org) --Brecht's
Mr. Puntila and His Hired Man Matti (March 20 - April
13)(Kitty [assistant organizer] and I are working at
the 2 p.m. performance on March 30.)(Interesting note:
this will be performed "off site" in the Bridge
Building at the City of Minneapolis Public Works yard
at 1901 East 27th Street, which will be razed
following the last performance.)
(3) Theatre Pro Rata (www.theatreprorata.org) --
Metamorphoses (March 21 - April 6)
(4) Jungle Theater (www.jungletheater.org) -- 2007
Pulitzer winner Rabbit Hole (March 28 - May 11)
(5) Interact Center for the Visual & Performing Arts
(www.interactcenter.com) -- Broken Brain Summit (April
3 - 26 at Old Arizona)(Interesting note 1: Interact
focuses on disability issues and includes members of
the disability community in its
productions.)(Interesting note 2: The play, which
opened at the Fringe last summer, was scripted by our
very own Amy Salloway [aka Puffpastry].)(Interesting
note 3: As a bonus, the first two weekends [April 4 -
5 and 11 - 12] will feature late night performances of
Amy's Fringe hit Circumference following Broken Brain
Summit.)
(6) Cricket Productions at Mixed Blood Theatre
(check www.mixedblood.com) -- Exit Strategy (April 8 -
May 4)
(7) Southern Theater (www.southerntheater.org) --
Live Action Set's The Piano Tuner (April 10 - 13)(I'm
working on April 11.)
(8) Park Square Theatre (www.parksquaretheatre.org)
-- Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill (April 11 - May
4)(Interesting note: Park Square holds a week of
previews before officially opening their productions,
and on the Tuesday of that preview week the show is
priced at $.99 on a no reservation/first come-first
serve basis. Lady Day's $.99 preview is on Tuesday,
April 15, at 7:30 p.m. That may ease Tax Day.)
(9) Red Eye Theater (www.redeyetheater.org) -- Have
You Seen Steve Steven? (April 18 - May 4)
(10) Open Eye Figure Theatre (www.openeyetheatre.org)
-- Dancing With Contagion (April 18 - May 11)
(11) Gremlin Theatre (www.gremlin-theatre.org) --
Everywhere Signs Fall (April 18 - May 11)

That's all for now. Should the group take off, I'm
willing from time to time to share the list of
productions at which I'm volunteering. As mentioned
before, I'm also willing to respond to any email
queries about volunteering. It's cheap, easy, and
enjoyable.

The codger in the corner,
Scott Jackson
