What we're about

The Third Friday CSDA Contra Dance invites new and experienced dancers to its monthly dance from 8:00-11:00 Third Fridays of each month at the Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St. in the center of downtown Carrboro. Contra Dancing is a New England analog to square dancing, uses many of the same dance figures as square dancing and is done in lines of couples progressing in time to the music up and down the line of couples. It is customary to dance with ten or eleven partners in the course of an evening and each couple interacts with several other couples in the course of each of the several dances within an evening's dancing. There is instruction for beginners at 7:30, almost always live music and the caller walks everybody through each dance before the music begins. The dances are alcohol and tobacco-free and all ages from high school up are welcome. There are opportunities for after-dance refreshments and socializing at any of several nightspots within a block of the Century Center.
