1910 24th Ave. S., Seattle, WA
We will have a weekend mini-retreat for which all are welcome. Feel free to come for any part that works for you. Folks who haven't sat with us before, though, please let me know and I'll welcome you and give you an orientation to what you can expect.
Lee and Madelon will co-lead the retreat. Rather than listening to a talk, we would like to offer music as teisho.
Wu-Men Kuan case 16: Yun-men said, “See how vast and wide the world is? Why do you put on your seven-piece robe at the sound of the bell?”
Wu-Men’s Commentary (excerpted):
Does the sound come to the ear or does the ear go to the sound?
If both sound and silence die away, at such a juncture how could you talk of Zen?
While listening with your ear, you cannot tell. When hearing with your eye, you are truly intimate.
9:00 Opening, Five Remembrances, Zazen
9:35 Zazen (sitting meditation), Kinhin (walking meditation)
10:00 Music practice, followed by comments and discussion, Kinhin
12:00 Informal lunch (Please bring food to share. Soup will be provided. If no time to pull together food - come anyway.)
1:30 Zazen, Interviews, by Lee.
2:50 Closing, Great Vows
These weekend events offer a more intensive experience for those who want to deepen practice. They are also good preparation for a residential retreat in the future!
I hope to see you soon,
