Details

Join us for a wonderful afternoon visit to Cambridge that includes:

a hilarious play at the city's stunning new 500-seat theatre overlooking the Grand River and a visit to the 200-acre country estate of Langdon Hall where we'll be served a traditional English afternoon tea that includes sandwiches, pastries, scones and Devon cream. The play is produced by Drayton Entertainment (http://draytonentertainment.com/aboutus/our_story/), Canada's third largest professional theatre company.

Members can attend both the show and tea or they are welcome to attend one activity only -- the show or the tea.

Carpools ($20 per passenger) are being organized. Travel time to Cambridge from Hwy 401/Yonge Street is about one hour. Passenger spots are for members who can't drive.

Our group is getting a 20 per cent discount on regular priced tickets for the show. No discount is available for the tea.

UPDATE AUG. 27: ALL THE TEA SPOTS ARE FULL NOW. LANGDON HALL CANNOT ACCOMMODATE ANYONE ELSE FOR TEA. MEMBERS ARE STILL WELCOME TO JOIN US FOR THE SHOW BEFORE THE TEA.

THE PLAY

Backstage antics take centre stage in this uproarious comedy when a world-famous tenor overdoses on tranquilizers before his premiere performance in the opera, Otello. Replaced by a hapless understudy looking for his big break, complications arise when the gallant tenor finally comes to his senses… and is determined to give the performance he never gave! Join us for a hilarious tale of mistaken identity that hits all the right notes. Written by American playwright Ken Ludwig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Ludwig). More information (https://www.draytonentertainment.com/Online/default.asp?doWork::WScontent::loadArticle=Load&BOparam::WScontent::loadArticle::article_id=6F04F77C-AC1B-4B48-9FEA-113D998E5C9A&sessionlanguage=&SessionSecurity::linkName=).

Note: Belinda has seen this play before and it is absolutely non-stop funny! Highly, highly recommended!

AFTERNOON TEA

After the show, we'll head to Langdon Hall at 1 Langdon Drive in Cambridge where we will enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea beginning at 4:30 p.m. that includes:

A selection of teas (Orange Pekoe, Earl Grey or a herbal tea) Freshly baked maple walnut and sunflower seed scones served with honey butter, homemade preserve & Devon cream Variety of savories including:

Truffled egg salad, milk roll Black Forest ham, piccalilli, honey & whole W\wheat Watercress mousse, pumpernickel Smoked salmon, caper butter, challah Variety of sweets, including:

Earl Grey chocolate macaron Cinnamon brown butter Madeleine Rugelach, date, toasted almond Apricot vanilla cream tart ABOUT LANGDON HALL: Built in 1898, Langdon Hall (http://www.langdonhall.ca/Our-History) exudes the air of an old Ontario estate, but few people are aware of its international connections. Built in Canada by the son of an English man who inherited American wealth, the grand home was intended as a summertime contrast to life in New York, London and a château in the Loire valley.
