Coastal Hike, Episode One

***UPDATE 4/19***
A member posed the question if dogs are allowed on this walk. I've spoken with Sunshine and one other volunteer, and both informed me that dogs are allowed on these trails. However, neither was quite sure if dogs are allowed on these docent-led walks. The website does not specifically say that dogs are not allowed, so I'm going to take that as dogs on leashes are welcome! Also, I was told that there are a few picnic tables/benches on the property at Founder's Park. I will be arriving around 2:00pm to soak in a little sun and enjoy a little pic-a-nic basket before the walk. If you would like to join me, plan to arrive between 2-2:30pm. We can make our way over to the parking lot to meet the rest of the walkers around 2:45pm. After you park in the public lot, ask any staff member the way to Founder's Park. I will try to grab a table, but if no luck, I'll have a purple Hawaiian print blanket on the ground.

P.S. I was told that if the parking lot is full, there is also some parking available along Ocean Trails Drive itself. Watch for any parking restriction signs just in case!
-------------------------------------------- Spring is here, and the weather has been beautiful already! Join me for a coastal hike in the Palos Verdes area...views of the Pacific and Catalina Island. This will be a docent-led hike, beginning on the grounds of the Trump National Golf Club. Hike is free, though donations are appreciated (for the Point Vicente Interpretive Center). Free parking. The hike should last about 2 hours, and you are welcome to stay longer and explore after.

Hike begins at 3:00pm, so let's meet and greet at the listed meeting place (in the public parking lot, before you get to the Clubhouse) at 2:45pm. If anyone is interested in lunch beforehand, please state in your RSVP. We can meet early for lunch in San Pedro or somewhere in Palos Verdes, maybe picnic (pack a lunch)? I'll post a location later if there is interest.

Wear layers, and comfortable walking shoes.
Bring hat, sunglasses, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.
Bring water to keep hydrated.
Bring a camera...there are some great views in this area!

If you have specific questions regarding the hike, please contact Sunshine at the number below. I will email my contact information a day or so before the event.

From the website:

After the docent led portion, trails to cobblestone and sand beaches are available. No reservations required. FREE - donations appreciated. Directions: The walk starts in the public parking lot, One Ocean Trails Drive. At the south end of the Harbor Freeway (110) or the west end of the Vincent Thomas Bridge ( 47/705), turn left onto Gaffey Street. Go 25 blocks and bend tight to the right onto 25th Street. About one mile after you enter the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, turn left onto Ocean Trails Drive into the Trump National Golf Club. • Prima

The trails in Palos Verdes have spectacular views! It was a bit cloudy and overcast on this day (so new view of Catalina), but the Western Bluff Preserve was magnificent!
