Kent Homes - Tiny Homes & Factory Tour - Road Trip

  • to
  • Tim Horton's,

Mumford Road, near bus terminal, Halifax, NS (map)

    44.648861 -63.575321

  • Gather in the Tims parking lot at 6:45am for carpooling. We will coordinate in order to ensure that everyone has a ride. People are free to make there own arrangements and meet at the Kent Homes factory in Bouctouche, NB at 12pm.
  • As many of you have heard, Kent Homes has entered the Tiny Home market with three CSA certified models being manufactured at their factory in Bouctouche, NB.  (See the CBC story here.)  At the suggestion of one of our members, (thank you for the great suggestion Wendy Hanlan :) we have contacted Kent Homes and they are very happy to have our group visit and tour their Tiny Homes (Kent calls them MicroHomes) and factory.

Weather permitting let's do a road trip on December 10th.  (We can also arrange alternate tour dates in the New Year for anyone that cannot make it at this time.)  It is approximately 600km round trip and members are encouraged to carpool as much as possible.  It will be approximately 3 hours of driving to get there from the Mumford Road Tim Horton's.  Allowing some time for pit stops and lunch in Bouctouche, I suggest we start the tour at noon (12pm) and plan to be back on the road for home between 2pm & 3pm.  This should put us back in Halifax by around 6pm.

If you are planning to participate, please let me know if are able to drive and take additional passengers or if you need a ride so we can make sure no one, who wishes to attend, is left behind.  Alternatively, if you plan to make your own way there, please let me know, as well so we are not waiting for you at the departure point.  If you are not able to get to Tim's in the morning, I will try to pair you up with a driver passing through your area.

If there is sufficient interest, I could also look into the cost of chartering a bus and arranging a buffet lunch somewhere.  If we went this route, I would collect the costs from each individual up front in order to book and pay for the transportation.

Most vehicles will require $60-$80 in fuel and tolls for this round trip and it is requested that everyone carpooling share the cost equitably with your respective drivers.

For more information on Kent Homes and their Tiny Homes download their MicroHomes brochure here.  Their currently available models are detailed here.  Their websites are located here and here.

Google Maps driving directions from the Mumford Road Tim Horton's can be found in PDF here or on Google Maps here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please register for this Meetup as soon as possible so that I can apprise Kent Homes of our numbers and determine if the cost of a bus and buffet lunch somewhere would be feasible.  Thank you.. Cheers!!

I would love to go on the 10th. Couple issues, the bridge closures on weekends, I come from Dartmouth so the early hour is a bit challenging with busing and I have no car, so will need a ride. Is anyone from Dartmouth close to the bridge terminal or downtown Dartmouth making their way over and available to give me a lift? If not I can make it over but will definitely need to hitch a ride. I too think a bus is a great idea! Very exciting idea.

For anyone not able to join us on December 10th, rest assured that we will be scheduling another tour with Kent sometime in the Spring. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Kent MicroHome brochures in the links at the end of the Meetup description above. Cheers!!

I would love to go, but am not able to go on the 10th. I would be really interested in heading out in the spring if another date is made for that for the trip.

I am interested to drive to the Kent tour. I can be a driver and have an SUV with room for 2 or 3 more passengers.

Hey this is exciting, in all honesty the Dec. 10th date is not a good one for me for several reasons. However I would be interested in one in the early Spring. I have a vehicle and would be me more than happy to take 3 people, everyone would be comfortable. In the meantime if someone could collect any info and styles with and costs they might give you I'd appreciate it. Also if someone could find out any information on a second hand Dickinson propane heaters with the little fireplace area. ( sailboat style ) I have an 18' cabin and am looking for one of these heaters , they are a $[masked] new and if anyone can help me , well I'd be thrilled as I have a budget especially cause I still intend to build a tiny house. Thank you and I wish everyone a great time and a very Merry Christmas !

My sister and her family arrive from Oz on that day! Bummer!! If it were in the new year I would be in for bus, lunch, tour, hike, sounds awesome!

I can't go on the 10th (I'm singing in a concert!), but in the new year, I'd be totally up for this! Thanks for pulling this together, Carey!

So excited! I would be up for a bus trip for sure if we're doing this all in one day. Otherwise I will probably stay over night and do some hiking in NB on Sunday.
