What a fun Tipsy Thomists discussion on Humanae Vitae! Apparently, Love, Sex, and Marriage brings all the girls to the yard — ok, that's my once-a-year bad pop culture joke! — but really; welcome to all the new people who've come the last couple of weeks, it's been great fun having you all; you've added a lot to the discussion, and for what it's worth, I think Monday was the first time the girls have outnumbered the boys!
Humanae Vitae set us on a solid dogmatic foundation. Now we're going to go a bit deeper into the nature of love and sexuality and also get more practical about applying these teachings in our own lives in Men, Women, and the Mystery of Love. I'm excited about this book; I think it's going to make for some good discussion, and be a real help and encouragement to all of us.
As a few people pointed out during the Humanae Vitae discussion, this topic is one that affects all of us deeply and intimately every day, and while we know the "right things" to do, we don't always know it with "love and understanding". It's a sad fact that we hear more about sex on TV than we do in our catechesis or in church. Hopefully this series of readings will fix that.
If you haven't yet ordered the book, please do so now; it's also available on Kindle. We'll see about having some extra copies — but no promises.
Let's try to get through the first two chapters next week, which is only about 24 pages.
See you next Monday, 7pm, on the upstairs back patio of the Ginger Man.
Peace & Love,
