Today, Oct. 11, marks the 50th Anniversary of the commencement of Vatican II, that most wonderful (and most misunderstood!) of Church Councils.
To mark this joyous anniversary (and because it was already planned this way), we will begin reading next week one of the four Constitutions from Vatican II.
Gaudium et Spes (http://files.meetup.com/2300521/Gaudium%20et%20Spes.pdf) (Joy and Hope) is the Constitution on The Church in the Modern World. It is an amazing document that addresses in fresh and moving language the position of contemporary man, his role in the Church, and the Church's attitude and orientation to the human condition in our time.
It has proven one of the most important documents of the Council, and indeed, one of the most important documents written in the last fifty years, as its impact has been felt far beyond the Catholic Church.
See you Wednesday, on the upstairs patio at the Ginger Man.
Peace, Justice, & Charity!
