70km Saturday Morning Social Ride - Halton Hills @ 8:30am

Note: Please arrive at 8:15am at Pineview Public School for an 8:30am departure. Do not accidently go to Hornby Park for this ride.

Come join us for our usual Saturday Morning Social Ride. This is a new route of the Halton Hills area along quiet country roads with rolling hills and plenty of wilderness, passing by farms and through the mountains of the Niagara Escarpment.

A 20-30 minute refreshment stop is planned after 48kms at either Dar's Delights Bakery in Moffat (no washrooms) or 3 km further down the road at Clover Farms convenience store in Haltonville (washrooms available).

There are no washroom facilities before Haltonville, but there is a portable one at Pineview Public School and some opportunities along the wooded areas of the route.

Arrival time back to Pineview Public School should be around 12:30pm (a little over 4 hours after the start).

This event is best suited for those who have a road or hybrid bike (i.e. with 700mm skinny tires), but can also be done by those who are very strong on the hills with a mountain bike. Remember, the heavier the bike, the more work to climb hills and ride against the wind compared to most members who have road bikes. The pace will typically be between 22-28km on the flats with an overall average pace of 19-21km, depending on the winds and the fitness of the group. That said, this event is for cyclists who at least have some experience riding similar distances and pace with a group of road-bike cyclists.

Please dress appropriately. Here are some suggestions:

• Bring enough water to stay hydrated.

• Wear sunblock for your face. legs, and arms.

• And of course you must wear a helmet (and although not mandated for this event, a bell is required by law).

Take HWY 401 West to Trafalgar Rd. Go north on Trafalgar for 3.8km until the 5th side road at the second traffic light. Turn right on 5th Side road and into the parking lot of Pineview Public school which is on the south/east corner of Trafalgar and 5th Side Road.
