Ganaraska Hiking Trail is a 500 kilometer long marked footpath from Port Hope on Lake Ontario to the south of the Blue Mountains. Like Bruce Trail, the Ganaraska Hiking Trail also consists of nine sections for each there is an End-to-End badge. Section End-to-End badge is available with cost of $3 -$7 upon the completion of the section. Check here for more information: http://ganaraska-hiking-trail.org/

The Barrie section starts at the Sugarbush Estate, runs west crossing Horseshoe Valley, Copeland Forest, Springwater Prov. Park, Snow Valley, and Minesing Swamp and ends at Hwy. 90 (50 kms). The terrain is varied with some short, steep hills but is suitable for novices.  We will do this End to End through two days on Dec 3rd and Dec 10th.

On Dec 3rd, after meet at Line 5 North, we will car shuttle to MIDHURST COMMUNITY CENTRE, 74 Doran Road, Midhurst, ON L0L 1X0, [masked], [masked]), (44°27'01.4"N 79°43'55.3"W) to start hike

Distance: 24km

Difficulty: Intermediate

Pace: Moderate (4 -4.5km/hour)

Terrain: Variable, challenging.

If you need a ride or are willing to offer, indicate your preferred pick up location and time in the comment section. It is suggested each driver takes 1 or 2 passengers and based on the approximate vehicle cost, each passenger contributes $22 ( 1 passenger) or $15 (2 passengers) to driver to share the cost.

The approximate vehicle cost = total km * $0.19 ($0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divided by 9).

We always start on time. We assume that those that aren't there have decided to not come. I'm sorry that you missed us. It's not fun after driving for so long. But I hope you made the best of it and went off on your own into Copeland Forest. It's beautiful.

Rain/snow today and tomorrow at Barrie. Wear water proof hiking boots/shoes, bring trekking poles and icers in case you really need them.
