Join us for a fun day learning how to traverse on ski the wintery snow-covered trails at beautiful Hardwood Hills, one hour north of Toronto.
We will car-pool, meeting at 8:00 am. De Mello Palheta Cafe - 2489 Yonge Street (4 blocks north of Eglinton) - opens at 8:00 am. After we have stocked our cars with espressos and capuccinos we should be ready to depart within 15 minutes.
For planning reasons - both for car-pooling and booking our group class - members wishing to attend must RSVP prior to Friday Jan 27th.
We should arrive at Hardwood Hills by 10:00 am and be outfitted and ready for our lesson by 11:00 am. We'll then have the afternoon to try out our new found nordic skills.
What you need: comfortable winter attire - long pants and underpants or long johns, good thick socks (and an extra pair to return home in), a good winter jacket and additional layer underneath, a toque/hat covering your ears, good gloves, sunglasses (in short, your winter running gear makes good winter skiing gear)
What you do NOT need - skis, poles, or boots. We'll rent those as part of our package.
The ski package is $47.00 per person (+hst), which includes equipment rental, trail pass for the day, and a 45-minute Intro to Classic Skiing group lesson (just for us!).
Because Hardwood Hills calls in instructors for the day based on our estimate and we as well need your firm commitment in order to plan who is driving, each person signing up for this meet-up is asked to make a firm commitment. At your earliest convenience, please provide Stephen Douglas with a non-refundable down-payment of $20 to hold your space. You can pay the balance ($26.50 + 6.05 HST) at Hardwood Hills.
There is a small cafe at Hardwood Hills where we can enjoy a break in between runs, featuring chili and soup, foccacia sandwiches and salad.
Anyone attending who needs help getting to de Mello Palheta where we'll meet, just leave a message on this event page. I tried to choose a central location, given that subways do not run this early on Sunday mornings. With sufficient notice, we can coordinate with one another to make sure everyone is able to join us.
