Rules and Guidelines

As our group grows a few issues come up so this page exists to let everyone know what is expected of them in order to remain a member of the group. Myself and the assistant organizers put many hours of work into this group each week in order to ensure you have the best experience possible. In return we ask that you follow these guidelines:

  • Participate! - The purpose of this group is to meet like minded-people and to experience hands-on learning. If you RSVP "Yes" and don't show it becomes very hard to plan events because we don't know how many people are going to be there. For sell-out events with a limited amount of space it means that some members may miss out on the opportunity to attend. For each event we go to great lengths to plan the details, arrange for an instructor or group leader and sometimes pay a fee from our own pockets to rent a space. Please keep your word and show up when you say you will. Members who are no-shows for two events receive a warning and will be removed from the group after the third no-show.

  • Put in what you get out - Our members come up with lots of great ideas for events, more great ideas than we, the organizers, can possibly manage. Our rule for suggesting events is simple: If you have an idea for an event be prepared to help make that event happen. You can get the ball rolling by selecting a date, finding a location for the event and letting us know how many people can attend. We'll assist you to make the event a success.

  • Respect others - This seems pretty self-explanatory but sometimes lines get crossed. If any member is found to be routinely disrespectful of others they are not welcome in the group. Extreme incidents will result in immediate dismissal from the group and, if serious enough, may result in being banned from

  • Handle yourself - If you are bothered by another member deal with the situation immediately and let the offending person know how you feel. If you are unable to resolve the issue with the other person please speak privately with any of the assistant organizers so that we can work on a solution together.

  • No marketing permitted - Although our group is interested in partnering with other groups, associations and individuals it is not a marketing vehicle for outside parties. It is also not appropriate for members to solicit to other members anywhere on our meetup site. That's what craigslist, ebay and kijiji are for.

  • We are not tech support - Please note that is a company based in NY and we just pay a fee to use their software. We (the organizers) have no control over the software and cannot provide ongoing technical support. If you are having any kind of technical trouble please use meetup's help section (which is quite good) or contact them directly with questions. If you send us an e-mail relating to a technical issue please we will try to help GUIDE you to appropriate resources.

  • Relax - Sometimes events don't go as planned but that's why we're survivalists! We need to be prepared both in body and mind for whatever comes up. We do our best to make sure our group rocks but what kind of experience you have is ultimately up to you.

Cheers and best wishes,
