One of my favorite rides is to take the Waterfront Trail out to Oshawa. Most of it is on dedicated bike trails next to the lake, or on quiet residential streets, with some great scenic portions, especially around Ajax and Rouge Hill. So let's head out there before the days get too short!
We'll be starting from the Eglinton GO station (2995 Eglinton Ave. E., Scarborough, ON, see the map link below) at 11 AM. The Waterfront Trail starts up just south of there. The ride to Oshawa is about 50-52 km, and we won't be in a hurry, I'll looking at an average speed of about 18-22 km/hr depending on what people are comfortable with. The ride will mostly be on trails and quiet streets, there will be two sections on a medium busy road.
Once we get to Oshawa we can take the GO train from there back to the city (the trip is less than an hour back to Eglinton Station), or people can backtrack if we feel like it. We'll be passing GO stations the entire way out if people feel like dropping out. We can have lunch in Pickering, which will be about half-way there.
Feel free to email me about the ride if you have any questions. I'll be checking the weather and I'll send out an advisory in the days beforehand with my cell number if it looks like the weather might be bad.
Come on out before fall comes for real!
