Inexpensive Dinner & a Very Funny Classic (No Meetup Fee) The Central 1st Level!

THE PRODUCERS - 1968

On Monday, April 22nd, beginning at 6:00 PM we have the main area reserved at the Central Bar & Grill for a Dinner, Drinks and Movie night. There is no meetup fee for this one!!

We will be showing one of the funniest movies ever made, Mel Brooks', The Producers from 1968. This hilarious film stars, Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder (in his first major role) and Dick Shawn. I actually worked with Dick Shawn in the early 80's during my acting days.

A has been Broadway theater producer, Max Bialystock, (Mostel) and his frightened accountant, Leo Bloom, (Wilder) discover that they could actually make a $1,000,000.00 by producing a flop instead of a hit. They search for a sure fire flop and find a musical about Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany, aka The Third Reich. Dick Shawn plays L.S.D. and Hitler on stage. Just a little trivia, Shawn invented the "High Five" in this movie.

Check out the trailer!!

This off the wall movie will begin at 7:30 PM. The Central Bar and Grill is generously giving us this space from 6:00 PM until approximately 10:00 PM, so please, do your best to support them by having Dinner, an Appetizer, a Drink or any combination of the 3. Their food is actually Quite Good and Really Inexpensive. You will be hard pressed to find a better Dinner and Movie deal anywhere!!

This night will also be shared with my 40 plus group, Life Begins at 40 Social Group. If you happen to be in both groups please RSVP just One Time and not in both groups.

Everyone is responsible for their own bill.

Separate cheques highly recommended.

Directions - Located one block west of Bathurst and Bloor. From your location go to www.mapquest.ca and click "Get Directions." The destination address is 603 Markham Street

Transit - Take the Bloor/Danforth Subway Line to Bathurst Station. Walk one block west along Bloor to Markham St. and you're there. For further TTC info call[masked]-INFO (4636) and dial O to speak with a live person.

Parking - There's a parking lot on Markham Street, just north of Bloor. I believe it's a flat rate of only $4 after 6PM. There's street (meter) parking on Bloor St., and if you're lucky you'll get a spot right in Mirvish Village (Markham St. between Bloor and Lennox). If you're parking on the street be sure to read the signs carefully to avoid a fine.

Prepare to laugh your head off!!

We look forward to seeing you!

Thanks everyone for coming out!! After the event I was talking with Lucan, the owner of The Central, and we figured out a way to make the seating a lot less frantic for the next time. This was our first time showing a film downstairs, so we need to get a few kinks worked out. We're planning to show a lot of great films there in the future. By the way, Lucan suggested having their pork chops or salmon next time as those are apparently The Central's specialties.

Hey guys so since this is gonna be my first meetup I was just wanting to clarify some things. Do we meet at 6pm at the restaurant? Where is the screening at? Are we having dinner/drinks/appetizers first then the movie? Thanks.

I started it at 6PM so that everyone can have the chance to have a bite to eat or drink to support the venue. Come when you can. I know that it's sometimes difficult to make it that early after work. The movie will be shown right there at The Central at 7:30. A lot of times our members continue to order a little during the film. It's a fairly easy going atmosphere there. Hopefully I've answered your questions, Patricia. If you need any more info, don't hesitate to ask. :)

Hi Alex, a friend of mine will be tagging along if there's still space?

Btw, this might interest some of the people here. the FADO Performance Art Centre is showing this weekend and on Tuesday a piece by Francesco Gagliardi which is based on Hitchcock's 1948 Rope. It's a collage based on pieces of the actual movie performed in the space. The full info is here: http://www.performanceart.ca/index.php?m=program&id=251
I might go on Tuesday but don't know for sure yet.

Too bad, I can't make it! Neither the brunch! My apologies but my work schedule is against classical movies. Maybe I should get another job? ;)

Great choice, Alex, but I have a conflict that night. If any change, I hope there's a spot left!

Thanks for putting off the movie start time until 7:30 - I missed part of the movie last time ... and your intro!

The Producers is just 88 minutes so it gives us a bit more time to play with. It should be a fun night!!
