Picnic and Sports at Christie Pits - Saturday, May 21 @ 2:30 p.m.

A BEAUTIFUL PARK CLOSE TO HOME: Christie Pits is used for many recreational activities, such as baseball and tobogganing.

Feel free to roam around the park. Have a picnic with us. Play a game of sports or a round of board games too and enjoy the balmy spring weather.

This is the perfect Meetup to enjoy one of the most popular Toronto parks, get active and meet new TAIR members. All for free!

What we'll have at the picnic:

-Fried chicken/chicken roast

-Pasta Salad

-Belgian loaf

Board Games

And more!

If you're able to bring any sport-related gear too, please let me know.

NOTE: I will be checking to see if Christie Pits Park has a shelter for picnic tables. If they don't, then I will postpone this event to next week. Normally what happens is that it rains for a few minutes then it stops, so I'm not too worried about the weather so much.

Where to Meet and how to get to Christie Pits

By TTC: Very simple, just get off at Christie subway station on the Bloor-Danforth line.

By Car: Getting there by car is more difficult. The closest highway is the Allen Road, so exit off Eglinton and head south to Bloor Street West. And depending where you are, head towards Christie Street.

Where we'll meet: We'll be waiting inside Christie subway station at 2:30 p.m., where the collector booth is. After 15 minutes, we'll be heading to the park.

We'll be at the bottom of the park. From Christie station, walk west and you'll see a paved road (can fit a car), it leads down to the baseball diamonds. Take this paved road and walk all the way down until you see a children's wading pool. We'll be setting up our picnic there.

If you're coming later on, we'll have a Meetup sign so we'll be easily identifiable. You can come and leave whenever you like.

If you get lost of need directions, you can call me[masked]-9218.

This event is free!

You may have to pay for parking.

A donation of 1-2 dollars towards the cost of the Meetup would be greatly appreciated, but not necessary.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the picnic! It was a lot of fun meeting some new members, enjoying the food, playing some sports and taking part in Trivial Pursuit.

We're good for food right now. The only things we could use is more games and perhaps an extra blanket. If you have a deck of cards or a board game such as Chess or Checkers, it would make a great addition to the picnic!

Hopefully we'll have good weather for Saturday, forecast is 20% chance of rain. I can bring a football for those who want to play catch.

Hey Felice, you bring up a good point. I have a friend who also organizes picnics for his Meetup, and there seems to be an abundance of cookies and chips after the event! I'll be sure to keep track of the food.

Hey everyone, the Christie Pits Picnic has been POSTPONED to Saturday, May 21. I went down to the park today and saw that there weren't any picnic shelters if it rained. Also, the forecast is scheduled to rain both on Saturday and Sunday. So I'd rather have a picnic in the sun than get soaked by the weather!

Sorry if this inconveniences this postponing may cause. But I look forward to having it next Saturday!

Be careful with asking for cookies and chips, I've been to a lot of events where the junk food is left uneaten.
