What we're about
Tour de Cure is one of the Portland OR area’s premier cycling events open to both the casual and serious rider. This annual July event provides essential funding to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) of Oregon and Southwest Washington and helps with our commitment to support diabetes research, education and advocacy in our community
Starting at Hillsboro, the Oregon and Southwest Washington Tour de Cure offers amazing routes through the rolling hills of the valley with views of local vineyards, farms and hazelnut orchards. Routes range from a 5/10-mile family loop to the 100-mile Century Ride. A 5k walk for those who are allergic to two (or three) wheelers. Festivities abound before and after the ride and include breakfast, lunch, live music, kid's activities, vendor booths and more.
This group is for riders, walkers, volunteers, and cheerleaders who share in our cause to Stop Diabetes. Our common bond is supporting Tour de Cure - the ride, the fundraiser, the mission. And a big part of that includes having fun on bicycle rides throughout the Portland area.
This group is open to everyone, including people who are getting started on a bike, people looking to gain health and fitness through cycling, people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who want to learn how to control their sugars AND enjoy cycling. And of course, we want you to participate in Tour de Cure in July, whether as a fundraising rider, volunteer, or supporting audience.
Members are welcome to post rides during the course of the year. The event host will provide all necessary information as to the route, terrain and what the cyclist needs to bring on the bike. The event host will describe the level of difficulty and pacing of the ride, and interested participants should feel free to ask for more details before committing to a ride.
We also ride in the Monster Cookie, Ride Around Clark County, and the Pioneer Century, the signature event rides offered by our local cycling clubs, while wearing our Tour de Cure swag.
We hope you will register, and donate/fundraise for the Tour de Cure. There is a small registration fee and a minimum donation of $150. Cyclists who have diabetes (who we call Red Riders) will receive a Tour de Cure custom made cycling jersey on ride day when the minimum fundraising level is achieved. Walkers who have diabetes (Red Striders) will receive a Tour de Cure walker shirt. Red Riders and Red Striders are the inspiration to the rest of us on the road.
