Laozi said: "Human beings follows the way of earth, earth follows the way of heaven, heaven follows the way of Dao (Harmony), Dao follows the way of Nature". Tai Chi is the way of harmony and nature, the guardian of life and higher purposes beyond words.
In Chinese, Tai Chi literally means grand ultimate or can be simply translated as harmony in motion. Its principles are well illustrated in the 'Tai Chi symbol' or also known as the 'Yin Yang symbol'. An ancient Chinese martial arts system was named after Tai Chi, the idea of harmony in motion became the focus of this Tai Chi martial arts system, also known as Tai Ji Quan in Mandarin Chinese. Nowadays, most people simply know it as Tai Chi, but unfortunately, they did not realize that the roots and links have been left behind, thus resulting the majority of people having an incomplete understanding and inefficient practice of this priceless treasure... In Chinese, the word "Quan" is directly translated as fist - the abstract expression for applying the basics and ergonomics into self-denfense and self-mastering, it is the foundation of all martial arts, whereas, weaponry becomes the extension of the body, mind and soul.
Traditional Wu Style Tai Chi Martial Arts system is one of the most recognized traditional styles of Tai Ji Quan and traditional Chinese martial arts around the world. Our lineage has well preserved the original system and training methods of Tai Ji Quan before it branched out into different styles, for example: connecting with and borrowing forces from opponents are always emphasized; we have preserved the original Tai Ji Quan fast form and the various internal methods of training kept for disciples only; we also preserved many traditional weaponry forms and dual training forms such as Broadsword, Straight Sword and Spear trainings. On the other hand, over 150 years of tests and refinements by the grandmasters of our lineage, Traditional Wu Style Tai Chi has achieved many developments and improvements that resulted its own characteristics, for example: our parallel bow-arrow stances for improved healing and strengthening effects; our unique 13 patterns of stationary push-hand and 7 patterns of mobile push-hand are designed for efficient responses to harmonize and overcome forces and threats by being centered, circular and connected; our smooth and continuous flow in all the forms' practicing are natural and relaxing thus achieving better meditative state; our detailed, medium but stretched postures with structured body alignments will prevent and heal injuries, as well as promoting longevity - click to see the grandmasters demonstrated the forms and push hand in their eighties and nineties.
In our school, there are 5 areas of studying - theories and culture, stances and conditioning exercises, forms and flows, push-hand plus applications. Our students can expect to gradually learn and improve on their own speed by taking the advantage of our small group classes' format of up to 5 students in each class, private and private group classes are available as well. Our optional certified exams are structured in the same way, the grading are calculated evenly according to the 5 areas mentioned above. It is designed to promote this ancient but timeless treasure and to foster a new generation of highly trained instructors and lineage bearers. By consistent practicing and applying the training to our daily living, we become centered, circular, and connected, our body, mind and soul become one with nature. We encourage our students to practice everyday, to be forgiving, appreciative, modest, content, compassionate. We train constantly to endure whatever life throws on us while making our experiences better.
We all have great potentials, will Traditional Wu Style Tai Chi Martial Arts be your key? "Resides within each of us: a student, a teacher, a master..." Let us aim to improve our surroundings as we improve.
