A terrific place for hiking near Jerome is the Woodchute Mountain Trail #102. The first half of the trail has been affected by fire a few years ago so it's cleared out in places offering terrific views from the mountain ridge. The latter half is thick Ponderosa Pine with plenty of shade. The trail starts out from 7100 ft' and gains about 600 ft to the summit. Most of the elevation gain is squeezed into the midpoint of the outbound trail. It's not too strenuous but provides for some altitude exercise, good length, and beautiful panoramic views atop the mountain in Prescott National Forest. Bring plenty of water, food (snacks and lunch) for the trail, cameras, and sun protection of some sort. When you RSVP, let me know if you're going to meet at the carpool location or at the trailhead.
