Stats/Rating:

Round-Trip Length: 4.2 miles miles
Elevation Change: 1100' (round-trip elevation gain)
Skill Level: Beginner
Dogs Allowed: Yes/leashed

THE PRE-MEET:

WE WILL MEET AT THE CEDAR

GULCH TRAILHEAD STARTING AT

10:45am, start hiking at 11:00 am

Since this is a very small parking lot, I recommend parking and carpooling from the Canyon Point shopping center at the intersection of Rubey Drive and Washington Ave just off of 93, and just south of Golden Gate Canyon Rd. OR at Colorado Mills near the Yard House , since that is the apres-hike. If you do not find a carpool from there, meet at the trailhead by 10:45. We will start the hike/spike/snowshoe (depending on the weather), by 11:00 am.

DIRECTIONS:

From Golden/ 6th Ave

1) Head north on 6th Ave toward CO-58 E

2) Continue onto CO-93

3) Turn left onto Golden Gate Canyon Rd

4) Turn left onto Co Rd 70/Golden Gate Canyon Rd

5) The trailhead is on Golden Gate Canyon road, 1.3 miles west of Highway 93.

THE TRAIL:

The park is small with just one trail up from the parking lot, a loop at the top of the mountain and one trail to a nearby neighborhood east of the park.

From the parking lot, hikers start on the Cedar Gulch Trail. It crosses a small foot bridge and follows a creek until it turns up and then along the hill. From here, hikers follow Clear Creek Canyon for about a half mile. This is a thin trail with little room for passing.

At 1.3 miles hikers come to the 1.6 mile Mount Galbraith Loop. Hikers can take the trail in either direction. Turning north, hikers will encounter a set of steep, rocky stairs.

Mount Galbraith sits between Golden Gate Canyon and Clear Creek Canyon. As hikers go around the loop, there are views into Clear Creek Canyon including the tunnels below and the antennas up above on Lookout Mountain. Also look for the twisty Lookout Mountain Road across the canyon.

THE APRES HIKE:

Lakewood

The Yard House - Lakewood (Colorado Mills)

14500 West Colfax Ave., Lakewood, CO 80401
