I am replacing the narrative previously posted for this hike, as some of it is not relevant to a late season hike to this spectacular location.  We should have no trouble with stream crossings or snow fields in early September.  This is a short, rugged hike, and while use of all four limbs is required two or three times to get above medium size rocks, it is never for more than a few steps, and there is little if any exposure on this hike (i.e., there will never be precarious, death-defying scrambles up cliffs).   The trail IS steep in places, and is a knee-pounder coming down, but manageable if you are in hiking shape.  My intent is to reach Foggy Lake, a half-mile beyond Gothic Basin.

Don't worry.  The trail is not up that gully.  :)

Foggy Lake, on what was clearly not a foggy day.

Oh, I'm so sorry, for some reason I thought it was the 20th! I don't move to Olympia til the 10th... this looks beautiful and I wish I could go. Want to climb Gothic someday...

Thanks for the heads up on the scrambling. I am a feet only hiker!

This is not really a scramble hike. I'm not going to say you never once use one of your hands for balance, but there is really no place on this hike where you fear for your safety. And that's coming from someone who is not comfortable on sketchier terrain. This is a great hike.
