Culture/Food & Fun Filled 4 Day Weekend Break to Riga. Latvia's Capital City.

East Midlands Airport - Departures Entrance

£259.00

LAST SPACE LEFT FOR A FEMALE TRAVEL BUDDY. 13 TRAVEL BUDDIES GOING AT PRESENT Riga has an old soul and a young heart. It’s risen phoenix-like from a turbulent past to claim its crown as one of Europe’s most vibrant capitals. Among it's stunning Art Nouveau buildings and storybook neighbourhoods, you’ll find prolific poets, innovative theatres, and noisy markets filled with Latvian dishes. Latvia’s capital and largest city, is a cultural centre with museums and concert halls and is known for its wooden buildings and medieval Old Town. It is set on the Baltic Sea at the mouth of the River Daugava. Riga's Old City and its abundance of bars and restaurants can be explored on foot. The New Town is easily reached by an efficient and modern bus and tram network. We will be staying in twin rooms with en-suite bathroom for 3 nights and breakfast is included each morning. You will be paired with a likeminded Travel Buddy unless there is someone that you plan to share with when you join up to the trip, in which case just let me know and I will put you down as roomies. Alternatively, you can choose to have a room to yourself for a supplement of £75 for three nights, you will just need to let me know if you would like this when you RSVP and will need to pay the extra when the balance for the trip is due. Riga’s most important landmarks are within 200 yards of our hotel. This includes House of the Blackheads, St Peter’s Church and the Daugava River. The Riga Dome Cathedral is 350 yards away. There is a bar and café with a courtyard terrace on site, free Wifi and a 24 hour front desk. Itinerary. Day 1. After meeting at East Midlands airport we will board our flight and arrive in Latvia late afternoon where we will take a private transfer to our hotel (approx. 25 mins). After settling in to our hotel we will take a short walk in to the city where we will set off on a 2-3 hour bike ride. (helmets are provided). The bike tour is perfect for city explorers who enjoy riding to lesser-seen corners, war memorials, deserted districts and strange little cafes. If you want to get to know Riga, it is more about riding and storytelling than filling your head with too many boring dates and numbers. Along the way we’ll pass a number of funky cafes, bars and galleries, and some cultural hot spots so, when the tour finishes, we’ll have a great idea of what to do with the rest of our time in Riga. We may even pop into one of the cafes for a quick pit stop! Please note that although the bike tour is included in the price of the trip it is not compulsory so please don't let it put you off coming along. You will just need to let me know if you don't wish to take part. After a little time to relax at the hotel we will head out to dinner close by in the city, somewhere that serves Traditional Slovakian food for a reasonable price. I will book the dinner for each evening before we go on the trip as it is a lot easier when there is a large group. I tend to have a good look on trip advisor and find some great local places that are not too expensive but feature traditional food and dining experiences. This said, if there is one evening that you don't fancy joining for dinner and like the thought of going off and having a look around yourself, or with a couple of others, that isn't a problem at all. Day 2. After a good breakfast at the hotel we will take a short walk to St Peters church late morning to go on a walking tour of the city. This will last approx. 2-2.5 hours and is very leisurely paced. we should then have started to get our bearings of the city and can decide what we fancy visiting during the rest of the trip. During the afternoon we can go off exploring, some Travel Buddies have a good idea what they want to visit when we go on a trip and have done a bit of research beforehand and others don't have a clue and prefer to wait until we get there. We find that whatever someone wants to do/see, there will be other that fancy it too so everyone gets to do as they pleas and no-one is left on their own....... in case you fancy going off for a wander, in which case, that is fine too. Here are a few of the "MUST SEE" sights in Riga........ Alberta Lela Albert Street is a street in Riga known for its Art Nouveau buildings. It is named after Bishop Albert who founded Riga in 1201. Riga Old Town Old Town Riga is a popular entertainment district in the historical and geographical center of the Latvian capital, featuring cobble-stone streets and an abundance of architectural gems. You may fancy taking a cruise along the dauvaga river...... Agenskaln's District We can cross the river Daugava where leafy Ageskalns’s cobbled streets are full of quirky museums built to pay homage to poets, stage artists, and railways. In lush Victory Park, the Victory Memorial to Soviet Army is a controversial point of interest. Wander the authentic markets at Kalnciema kvartāls in search of local treats like sparkling birch tree wine. Day 3. We have the whole day to do as we please and explore the city. We will arrange a time to meet for breakfast and then head out from there, if you fancy a lie in, then that's fine, you can always catch us up later! Essential's on the to do list when inn Riga is visit ..... Central Market Riga Central Market is Europe's largest market and bazaar. It is one of the most notable structures from 20th century in Latvia and has been included in UNESCO World Heritage Site list together with Old Riga in 1998.The markets are housed in five old Zeppelin hangars - four adjoining each other and another one slightly separated from the others. here you can try a variety of scrummy local foods as well as browse the clothing and craft market halls. KGB Building File No. 1914/2014 For the history lovers amongst us. The Corner House, a project by the Occupation Museum, provides the opportunity for the wider public to gain insight into the former KGB, or ‘Cheka’, headquarters in Riga. Visitors are able to view jail cells, dungeons, strolling areas, such as the lift for the interrogated and office workspace. It is a revelation for the young generation and foreign tourists as well as a memorial for those who suffered within these walls. Freedom Monument The Freedom Monument is a memorial honouring soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence. It is considered an important symbol of the freedom, independence, and sovereignty of Latvia. Evening meal will be booked beforehand although it is not compulsory that everyone comes. There really is so much to see and do in this city to suit all different tastes. I could go on for days! Day 4. After a relaxing breakfast we will take our private transfer to the airport at around 09.45 to get our flight back to the UK. Exploring Athens & The tiny Greek Islands of Poros. Week in the sun.

Luton Airport London (Ltn)

£539.00

8 TRAVEL BUDDIES ALREADY GOING... If you would like to join this trip please message me as I have now closed it off to new RSVP's but there may still be availability. Join Travel Buddies on this super week long trip that combines the culture and history of Athens and the beauty and laid back Greek island lifestyle in Poros. Day 1 After arrival in the evening in Athens we will take our private transfer to our hotel where we can check in and head out for a drink or a bite to eat. We will be sharing twin rooms at the 2 star Evripedes Hotel in the centre of Athens, Continental breakfast is served at the hotel’s roof garden, situated on the 7th floor. We are within a short walking distance of the scenic Plaka district and can enjoy access to the rooftop terrace in the evening which offers panoramic views over the Acropolis and the city. The rooms at Evripides are equipped with a flat-screen satellite TV, a fridge and a safety box. Each is air conditioned and has a private bathroom with shower and hairdryer. Free WiFi access is offered throughout. The Psirri neighbourhood is historical, and one of the oldest neighborhoods in Athens, full of shops with tasteful and aromatic herbs and spices, cured meat, Greek cheeses, etc… The central market of Athens is just a block away from the hotel. Day 2 After breakfast at the hotel we will meet our guide who will take us on a private walking tour of the Acropolis and the Museum of the Acropolis. The tour will last approximately 3 hours so we will need to wear some comfy footwear and we will end at a Greek restaurant where we can enjoy some lunch. After lunch we will head to the starting point of the hop on/off bus tour. Our tickets can be used for the next 48 hours and cover the 3 main routes in Athens. We can hop off wherever we want to. The buses come every 15 minutes and cover the following stops. Acropolis Museum Parthenon Temple of Zeus National Library National Archaeological Museum National Gardens Odeon of Herodes Atticus Archaeological Museum of Piraeus (Piraeus Route) Asteria Glyfada Beach (Beach-Riviera Route) Oceanis Beach (Beach-Riviera Route) Votsalakia Beach (Piraeus Route) We will meet in the lobby for dinner to head out somewhere local to sample traditional Greek cuisine. Day 3 Full day to explore the city using the hop on/off passes. Meet in the lobby to go for dinner. Day 4 After breakfast we will check out of the hotel and leave Athens behind as we continue on to the more relaxing, scenic and laid back part of our holiday. So begins begins our journey to Poros by means of bus, ferry transfer to Poros and bus to the "Nikis village", how very Greek! Situated in the southwest of the Saronic Gulf, opposite the Peloponnese, Poros is comprised of two islands, Sphairia and Kalavria, of which the former is a volcanic rock and the latter planted with pine trees. We are staying at three star family owned accommodation "Niki's Village" for the next 4 nights, and will be sharing one bedroomed apartments which have twin beds. I have added a good few pictures so do take a look at how beautiful it is!, it is a typical Greek style hotel, think whitewashed apartments and bright flowers, beautiful beaches, pine forests and lemon trees. Just 150 yards from the beach, Nikis Village features a pool and self-catered rooms with free WiFi. All accommodation offers a balcony either overlooking the Saronic Gulf, the mountains or Poros Town. The air-conditioned units at the Nikis are decorated in white and light blue colours and many have traditional furnishings. Each includes a satellite TV and kitchenette with a dining area, fridge and cooking hobs. Next to the swimming pool we can enjoy a buffet breakfast including a selection of Greek flavours, while homemade snacks and cocktails can also also be purchased throughout the day. The scenic town of Poros with taverns, bars and shops is just 0.6 miles away. One of the most beautiful spots to visit is love bay beach, This adorable and charming bay just a short walk from the hotel is a real paradise on earth with fine white pebbles and sand and amazing crystal emerald waters. The beach is surrounded with pine trees, Askeli is the largest and most popular beach of the island. Only an 18 minute walk from the hotel where we will find many restaurants, café-bars, and supermarkets as well as a water-ski school. We will head out each day for dinner, and there is a super taverna next door to Nikis, as well as a bike hire shop. Day 5 I have largely left the time on Poros for us to all do as we please without any strict itinerary. If you fancy spending lots of time sunbathing whether it be at the pool or one of the many beaches, or heading off to explore every day, or a mixture of both you won't be alone, there are always others in the group that will fancy coming along so nobody gets left on their own..... unless they want to be. Day 6 Right, here's some ideas at to what we can do when we fancy venturing out, Archaeological museum This small museum on the waterfront shows a beautiful collection of classic Greek sculpture from the area. Visit Poros town and port. Laid out on ancient volcano, Poros Town is in fact an island in its own right as it is separated from the rest of Poros by a small canal. The waterfront is hemmed by a promenade, with fabulous vistas of the strait and the coastal mountains of Peloponnese. The line of private yachts adds a dash of class, as do the Neoclassical villas across the road, where the next cafe or taverna is only a few metres away. To escape the heat of the day explore the cool warren of twisting alleys with local shops and restaurants. Pine forest and mountain walks For those of us that like a hike this is the perfect place so don't forget to pack those sturdy shoes/boots. Poro's was made to be seen on foot, walk paths beaten for centuries by villagers and farmers, stroll in the aromatic pine-decked hills journeying past olive and citrus groves. Day 7 Free Day Day 8 After having breakfast we can check out and leave our luggage at the hotel whilst we continue exploring, soak up some last rays around the pool or at the beach or do a last spot of souvenir shopping. We will leave the hotel mid afternoon to take the direct 3 hour private transfer to Athens airport for our flight home. A room to yourself is available for £200 for the 7 nights. This needs to be paid at the same time as the balance. Whats Included * 7 nights accommodation sharing a twin room, 3 nights in Athens and 4 nights an apartment in Poros. * 48 hour hop on/off bus tour including three different routes and guided commentary. * Fully guided tour of the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. * Return Airport transfers * Transfer from Athens to Poros by bus & ferry. * Breakfast each day Whats not included * Flights You need to book your own flights and they are with these are with WizzAir and are just £102 as of today. Brown Bear Tracking in The Carpathian Mountains & Visit to Bear Sanctuary.

TRIP NOW FULL 12 TRAVEL BUDDIES GOING Join Travel Buddies as we Step into the wild and experience the thrill of tracking the mighty Brown Bear in the depths of Transylvania’s extensive forests and across the Carpathian Mountains. This exciting four-night adventure is an absolute must for wildlife lovers, keen photographers and adventure seekers and includes bear hide and visits to Bran Castle (aka. Dracula’s Castle) and the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zarnesti. We start our adventure in Romania’s buzzing capital city, Bucharest. After an afternoon and evening dazzled by the city’s vibrant mix of history, culture and entertainment, we will be whisked through the scenic Transylvanian countryside, stopping at the mountain town of Sinaia to admire the breathtaking beauty of Peles Castle before heading off to Bran Castle, would-be home of Dracula, for some exploring before arriving in Brasov. Located on the cusp of the Carpathian mountains in the heart of Transylvania, the medieval town of Brasov is picture-postcard-pretty and the perfect spot for a taste of authentic Transylvanian grub. Stoked up and ready for action, we will travel to the heart of bear country to get up close and personal with the animals in their natural habitat from the safety of secrete tree houses in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains. We will follow in the footsteps of celebrities like Aleisha Dixon and Leona Lewis with a morning visit to the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zarnesti where we’ll be shown around, greeting the bears that have been rescued over the years and learning about the work of this fantastic charity. That afternoon you can sign up for the nature and wildlife walk through the beautiful Carpathian Mountains. With the help of an experienced local tracker you’ll inspect the bark of trees and search the muddy ground for footprints trying to pick up on the presence of both bears and other wild animals found in the Carpathian Mountains such as the grey wolf, lynx and various birds of prey. The trip ends back in Bucharest where we have the morning to explore this stunning city before taking our private transfer to the airport for the flight home. The Itinerary. Day 1 After meeting early at the airport and arriving in Bucharest we will take our private transfer to a three star hotel in the centre of the city where we will have a welcome meeting and have some time to relax or explore the city. We will all head out for dinner close to the hotel at a traditional Romanian restaurant where we will get to try the specialities, and perhaps a Romanian beer..... Day 2. After our breakfast we will take a morning transfer to Transylvania via Sinaia with a visit to the magnificent Peles Castle before heading on to the medieval town of Brasov. We will then transfer to the Carpathian Mountains for the Bear Hide experience. Of an estimated worldwide population of 200,000 brown bears, the Carpathian Mountains in Romania host a whopping 60% of Europe's. The Ursos Actos are amongst the largest living carnivores in the world, weighing up to 350kg and living for approximately 30 years with strong hearing and an excellent sense of smell. In Romania, the record weight found is reported as 480kg! At the bear hide, you are highly likely to catch a glimpse of the bears feeding with around a 90% chance of sightings. June is a great month to try to spot these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. The weather in Romania should be very pleasant at the time of our trip and we will get to spend lots of time outdoors experiencing the stunning scenery. The Carpathian Mountains and Piatra Cariului National Park in particular, boast spectacular alpine views that stretch across over 15,000 hectares and feature beautiful alpine meadows rich in wild flora and fauna as well as caves, mountain creeks and waterfalls and of course dense forests hosting an impressive number of wild bears, wolves and other mammals. On our bear tracking excursion we’ll head out in search of animals’ prints through an area carpeted with an abundance of wild flowers and peppered with hundreds of butterflies.Night at the hotel in Brasov. Day 3. After breakfast we take a transfer to visit the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zarnesti where we’ll be shown around, greeting the bears that have been rescued over the years and learning about the work of this fantastic charity. In 1998 a Romanian woman, Cristina Lapis, saw 3 bears in a small cage outside a restaurant in central Romania where they were used to attract customers. She later found more bears used in a similar way in other areas of the country. Her dream was to rescue these distressed animals and to change public attitudes to stop this cruel and illegal exploitation of one of Romania’s magnificent native animals. Now that dream is being realised, with over 70 bears enjoying a new life in the Libearty Bear Sanctuary – 70 hectares of oak and hazel forest in the Carpathian Mountains above the Transylvanian town of Zarnesti. Here, the bears climb trees, swim in the pools and forage on the vegetation. For many of them, having been caught from the wild as cubs, this is a new and stimulating experience. The Romanian bear sanctuary has helped to create better awareness of the issues affecting bears in Romania. The Romanian public, media and also the authorities have now taken this project to their hearts. The sanctuary has given new life to once-captive bears and is a symbol of optimism for the protection of Romania’s rich natural environment. We will eat dinner back in Brasov at a really stunning underground cave restaurant serving Romanian traditional cuisine at very reasonable prices. Night at the hotel in Brasov. Day 4. Spend the morning enjoying the relaxed atmosphere in Brasov for breakfast and lunch before visiting Bran Castle, known to many as Dracula’s Castle. Then you’ll travel back through the Transylvanian countryside to Bucharest. Here we can spend the summer evening soaking up the atmosphere in the city, thake a wander thrugh the sity and have dinner, whatever takes our fancy. Night at the hotel in Bucharest. Day 5. After breakfast we will need to check out of our hotel rooms but then have somewhere safe to store our luggage so that we can go and explore Bucharest before taking the transfer back to the airport in the early afternoon If you want to have an early breakfast and make the most of your last few hours in Bucharest then some of the places that are really worth a visit are as follows......
