After meeting at the airport at 4.30pm we will go through security and set off on our adventure, after a short stop off in Frankfurt we will board our overnight flight to Rio.
Arrive in Rio early morning and take a private transfer to our hotel, as we are arriving in to the city early we will have some time to explore before settling in to our accommodation.
We are staying in a hotel in the centre of Rio in the Lapa district which a trendy district with many bars and restaurants. We will be sharing twin rooms with en suite bathrooms and breakfast is included each morning. the hotel has a small rooftop pool where we can relax after our busy days sightseeing. we will be staying here for 5 nights giving us time to make ourselves at home and have plenty of time to explore the city of Rio.
The rest of the day can be spent as we please, catching up on sleep or explloring depending on how we feel after the journey, In the evening we will venture out to dinner together and take our first taste of authentic food of Rio!!!
After breakfast we will be collected from our hotel and spend a full day on a guided tour ( included) visiting the famous landmarks of Rio. including Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado Mountain, Sao Conrado beach and Tijuca National Park's rainforest. There will be a stop for a buffet style lunch in the traditional neighbourhood of Santa Teresa. (Not included). At the end of the tour you can choose to be dropped off at Sugar Loaf Mountain in time for sunset, or at the hotel, if you prefer.
Time in Rio to do as we please.
The carnival starts today and there are festivities all across the cities with parades along the beaches and partying and dancing galore. Below is the link to the official carnival website that you can take a look at before the trip. It will be updated closer to the time of the carnival but will have the extensive schedule of what is happening and when across the whole of the city.
The Travel Buddies trips work on the basis that as long as you are having a good time then that is what matters, if you don't feel like coming on one of the excursions or joining the rest of the group for dinner one evening then that is absolutely fine. This is an adventure for everyone and there is nothing worse than having to go somewhere/do something that you don't really fancy!
We will meet up and discuss over breakfast what everyone fancies doing as the next two days are at our leisure. There will always be someone that fancies doing the same as others so no-one gets left on their own..... unless they want to be....
We can use public transport get to some of the sights and walk to others.
As we please
During the day we can do as we please before walking to the pick up point to board our coach that will take us to the Sambadrome to watch the Carnival parade. This is one of the best evenings to watch the parade as 5 of the best samba schools will perform and march on this evening. During the parade we will sit on the bleachers. These are large concrete steps and seating is not allocated. They are the best place to watch the parade from (apart from the private boxes and the seats in these cost a small fortune!) and we will be in the heart of the atmosphere. You will need to make sure that you take a sunhat and suncream as the weather will be hot.
the parade will last all evening and we will take our transport to the drop off point once it has finished and then walk back to our hotel.
After breakfast we will take a private transfer to the hotel and board our flight to Manaus.
Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas, on the banks of the Negro River in northern Brazil, is a major departure point for the surrounding Amazon Rainforest. East of the city, the dark Negro River runs side by side with the brown, muddy Solimões River in a phenomenon called the Meeting of the Waters, which converge to form the Amazon River.
Manaus is located in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, and access to the city is primarily by boat or airplane. This isolation helps preserve both the nature as well as the culture of the city. The culture of Manaus, more than in any other urban area of Brazil, preserves the habits of Native Brazilian tribes. The city is the main entrance to visit the fauna and flora of the Brazilian Amazon. Few places in the world afford such a variety of plants, birds, insects, and fishes.
After arriving in Manaus we will be collected by minibus and taken by road to Rio Preto De Eva before taking a motorized canoe for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to the Malocas jungle lodge where we will be staying for the following 6 nights.
Please Note, You will need to leave some of your luggage at the secure office as there is only room for a rucksack each on the boat. You will not have to leave any valuables behind and will be given a full list of what you will need to take with you in to the jungle.
The accommodation at the lodge is twin rooms with shower rooms and during our time here all meals and activities are included in the price of the trip. The food will be made up of, may I quote " Delicious fishes and fruits from Amazonia".
If there are any activities that you feel you don't wish to take part in you are more than welcome to opt out and take some time at the lodge relaxing instead. Please be aware that due to the remoteness of the lodges there will be no wifi available for this part of the trip. Perhaps a good idea to bring along a good book or two for when we have time to relax.
After settling in we will be taken by canoe through the Igarapés to visit one of our Caboclos neighbors who still live in similar conditions to their Indian ancestors. Progressively, we will learn how to survive in the jungle thanks to useful plants (to eat, to take care of yourself, to build a shelter).
Dinner at around 19h.
After dinner we will leave the lodge with our guide to “hunt” alligators. (we will not be killing them, just seeking them out and learning how to track them),
After breakfast we will go on a jungle trek. Discover how the eco-system in the amazon jungle worsk and bathe in one the waterfalls that surround the Malocas. After lunch we have free time to relax before leaving for a new trek in the deep jungle. Late afternoon we will head back to the lodge to fish piranhas. If we are successful we can taste them for dinner…
After dinner... around the fire.
Bird observations at sunrise. After breakfast we will head off on a second jungle trek (different eco system) ending at another waterfall where you can freshen up before returning.
After lunch, we could rest, swim and fish.
dinner and campfire.
Breakfast and morning at the lodge.
in the afternoon you will have the opportunity to head off with the guide to spend a survival night in the forest. We will head off in the the heart of the jungle with a native guide ( English speaking) to find your own food, put your newfound jungle survival knowledge to the test, build a little house and spend an unforgettable night in your hammock, close to the fire, cradled by the numerous jungle noises.
If this is not your idea of a good nights sleep then you are more that welcome to stay at camp where you will have dinner and a campfire and the group will rejoin camp in the morning.
After breakfast you will trek back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will leave the Malocas jungle lodge with a motorized canoe, going down the Amazon river
Dinner and night on a beach or a caboclos house. Bird and pink dolphin watching.
Discovery of the special fauna and flora of this area (white water area). After lunch, we'll take a regional boat going up the Amazon River heading to the meeting of the water and Manaus. Dinner onboard.
Today we will leave the jungle after breakfast and take our private transfer to the airport after stopping off to collect the rest of our luggage.
The flight to the Iguassu falls is not direct and will take seven hours. Having said that, we could not go so close and not visit them. We will arrive in to Iguassu late in the evening where we will take our private transfer to our hotel.
Located 450 yards from the Iguaçu National Park entrance, the 4-star Resort & Spa invites you to enjoy its leisure activities and nature near the Iguaçu waterfalls. For a fee, guests can enjoy the spa with a sauna unit, hot tub, massage services and relaxation area.
In addition to a large swimming pool surrounded by gardens, you can go on an ecological hiking trail in the surrounding native forests. Breakfast is included on both mornings.
After breakfast we can head on out to look at the falls. we can either go as a large group or as smaller groups depending on whatever everyone prefers. Don't forget the camera!
The exquisite Iguazu Falls are also known as the Iguassu Falls and the Iguaçu Falls. The magnificent spectacle of these 275 individual drops has awed tourists, locals and indigenous inhabitants for centuries. They originate from the Iguazu River and are located on the border of Brazil (in the state of Paraná) and Argentina.
In fact, the Iguazu Falls are what divides the river of the same name into its upper and lower portions, a fact that has given rise to several myths and legends as to their origin. This river forms the boundary between Brazil and Argentina, making it a significant part of the political and geographical structure of the continent of South America.
We can spend the rest of the day relaxing at the hotel or hiking one of the trails close by.
Overnight in Iguassu.
After breakfast we will take a private transfer to the airport and take our last internal flight of the trip back to Rio where we will spend our last evening in a beautiful hotel 2 minutes walk from Copacabana beach. The 4-star Hotel boasts stunning ocean views. Featuring free WiFi, this hotel also has a breakfast buffet with croissants, fruits and fresh pastries is served daily.
after breakfast we will check out of the hotel and where we can store our luggage for the day until our evening flight.
We can spend the last day relaxing on Copacabana beach and soaking up the rays or head out for a bit more sightseeing.
we will then take our private transfer from the hotel to Rio airport where we will wave goodbye to Brazil and start the journey home.
We will have a short stop in Frankfurt in the afternoon and will Arrive London Heathrow airport at 16.45.
