Do you enjoy beautiful travel experiences--walking in an attractive garden, traversing an appealing landscape, being in charming architecture or interiors, dining in atmospheric restaurants? Perhaps it was witnessing the Taj Mahal at sunrise, having drinks at a rooftop terrace bar in Morocco at sunset, spending an afternoon at a small museum housed in a vintage mansion in Paris, eating at a thatched-roof restaurant on the beach in Southeast Asia...? If so, this group would provide you greater travel opportunities and a place to meet like-minded friends who enjoy travel, food and wine.
Joining this group is free; there are no membership dues. If you are over 40, you are encouraged to join. If you are out of town or out of state, you are welcome to join--even though you may not be able to participate in local activities, you can join tours and vacations.
A small, woman-owned tour company will cross-list their trips to countries with interesting cuisines, such as Cuba and Morocco, to provide travel options for our members. Likewise, other travel professionals, cooking instructors, or wine merchants who are doing tours or events that would of interest to members, such as classes or wine tastings, are encouraged to contact the Organizer to discuss informing members about these.
For those who prefer very-small-group, independent-type travel, the Organizer plans one to two overseas vacations a year. These are 2-3 week vacations during the spring or fall/autumn to destinations in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. They are not for profit, and at a moderate cost, similar to commercial tours. The Organizer has done about 20 such trips so far that are designed to provide charming travel experiences. Future destinations include Myanmar/Burma; Prague, Vienna, and Salzburg; China; southern Spain; northern India; Rome and Tuscany; England and Scotland... If you are interested, please contact the Organizer.
We will also have meetups in Seattle--cultural events with a foreign theme, such as dance performances and musical concerts, and small-group meals at restaurants serving a regional cuisine.
Unlike many Meetup groups, in this group, members can do their own meetup/meeting--if they are looking for travel companion(s) for a trip, wish to dine at an ethnic restaurant, or attend a cultural event with other members. Please contact the Group Organizer well in advance. Members doing a meetup for travel companions are asked to contribute a modest sum towards the annual dues that Meetup charges for hosting a group, since the member will benefit financially from finding a travel companion. This does not apply for purely social meetups.
Many Meetup groups are marred by irresponsible members who sign up for meetups and do not attend or cancel the night before or just before the event. This is highly inconsiderate of both the Event Organizer who has spent time and energy organizing that meetup, as well of members who are interested in meeting others. In this group, we would like to have responsible members with integrity who check their calendar and sign up only for meetings they can attend and show up. This is especially true for restaurant meetings, which often need reservations. For meetings like these where attendance is important (and this will be indicated in the meetup description), those who do not show up 2 times--including canceling the day of, or the day before the meetup--will be removed from the group.
We begin small and hope to grow into a larger community of people who enjoy travel, food, and wine, in keeping with the Meetup organization's vision of bringing people together over shared interests and activities. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Organizer.
