What is "Travel Photography"?

"Travel photography is a subcategory of photography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography) involving the documentation of an area's landscape, people, cultures, customs, and history". The Photographic Society of America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_Society_of_America) defines a travel photo as an image that expresses the feeling of a time and place, portrays a land, its people, or a culture in its natural state, and has no geographical limitations."

Well, that's the definition in Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travel_photography and it explains it quite well. Travel Photography requires you to be a bit of a jack-of-all-trades as you will need the knowledge and skills to cover more than one genre. At times it requires you to think fast and know the capabilities of your equipment inside out and to be able to shoot no matter what the conditions. Compared to say a Landscape Photographer whereby they often set up at a given location and wait for the perfect light, a Travel Photographer quite often does not have the luxury of time to stand around waiting.

Look forward to meeting you at our next meetup event.

Happy Clicking

Photo Walk - Sydenham/Marrickville Creative Trails Street Art

Needs a location

This walk is ideal for those interested in Street, Street Art and Urban Photography which are all components of Travel Photography.

We'll meet at Sydenham Station at 10:00am. From here we will do some urban exploration & photograph street art in the back streets of Sydenham/Marrickville. Edge Sydenham is also on during this weekend, so we also have the option to visit some of the art studios in the area. You can read more about it here - innerwest.nsw.gov.au/EDGEsydenham2022.

There is also the opportunity to visit one (or a couple) of the local craft breweries in the area.

DURATION: Approx 3 hours

EQUIPMENT: Camera (any type, mobile to DSLR), lenses (wide-angle or zoom e.g. 18-55+ is suitable).

PERSONAL: Comfortable walking shoes, water, hat, sunglasses, suntan lotion and an umbrella/wet weather jacket (if the weather looks bad).

DISTANCE: This is an easy walk (about 5km) round trip.

Car: For those driving - there is parking at the Sydenham station or surrounding streets.

Train: Sydenham Station is serviced by T3 Bankstown trains, T8 Airport, East Hills & South Line trains, and T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line trains. Hopefully they will be running :-)

COST: $5.00 - There is no refund/transfer of fee for cancellations. Cost covers Paypal fee and goes towards the costs of running Meetups and this page.

Minimum 6 attendees required to proceed.

Please Note: By clicking RSVP on this event you understand that you are attending AT YOUR OWN RISK. We are just organising the event to give you the opportunity to socialise with like-minded people interested in photography and maybe learn something along the way. While all care is taken, no responsibility is taken for any loss or damage/injury to you or your equipment during the event.
