What is "Travel Photography"?

"Travel photography is a subcategory of photography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography) involving the documentation of an area's landscape, people, cultures, customs, and history". The Photographic Society of America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photographic_Society_of_America) defines a travel photo as an image that expresses the feeling of a time and place, portrays a land, its people, or a culture in its natural state, and has no geographical limitations."

Well, that's the definition in Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travel_photography and it explains it quite well. Travel Photography requires you to be a bit of a jack-of-all-trades as you will need the knowledge and skills to cover more than one genre. At times it requires you to think fast and know the capabilities of your equipment inside out and to be able to shoot no matter what the conditions. Compared to say a Landscape Photographer whereby they often set up at a given location and wait for the perfect light, a Travel Photographer quite often does not have the luxury of time to stand around waiting.

Look forward to meeting you at our next meetup event.
