Hi Travel 2.0,

So excited to begin working with you all to build and nourish the travel tech community in NYC! As Mike mentioned, Voyager HQ is the global club for startups in travel, tourism and hospitality. We connect our membership of over 1,000 startup founders with resources -  intros to investors, mentors and partners, event invites, discounts, dedicated workspace, and more - all with the mission of helping to unite the industry and advance innovation in travel.

VHQ hosts a bunch of events and programming from our space in Chelsea/Flatiron - and we’d love to start getting to know all of you by opening up our events to the Travel 2.0 community as well. The next one coming up is our Travel Startup Happy Hour, where startup founders, industry professionals, developers, bloggers, travel enthusiasts and friends can expand their network and have a great time in the process! Here’s the link to RSVP, and feel free to use the discount code TRAVEL20. Hope to see you there!

John and I are excited to get to know this group better and create some awesome content - but if anyone has ideas, we’d love to hear them. Feel free to message me here or shoot me an email at [address removed].

Bon Voyage!

Jenny & John

Re: [Travel20] Travel 2.0 And Other Updates
Hey 2.0'ers,

It's been too long! Bill Beckler wound up not being able to run the group, but I have great news! If you haven’t heard, Voyager HQ, a club and coworking space for travel startup founders, is the new epicenter of the travel tech scene in NYC (and beyond!). Jenny Silber and John Matson from Voyager are going to take over as the organizers of our beloved Travel 2.0 meetup. While some of their events are closed to their members, they’re going to start inviting you to some of their open events, and if there is enough interest, they could even run events specifically for Travel 2.0 members. So look out for updates and invites from them soon. Hope you’re as excited as I am that the group will be getting back on track!

Also, a quick note that Phocuswright is running our annual Battleground: The Americas travel startup pitch competition and mini-conference in New York this year. It will be held on August 7 at Google HQ in NYC. Applications to pitch are open until July 13, and a limited # of tickets are available at only $99. It’s a great opportunity to network with investors and industry executives. All details are on the website - hope to see you there!

Hey 2.0'ers,

I'm thrilled to announce that Bill Beckler, former Director of Innovation at Travelocity and co-founder of, will be taking over for me as the main organizer of the Travel 2.0 Meetup group.

Bill has as much passion for the world of travel startups and technology as I've ever seen. He is filled with knowledge and insight about the space. I know he will run the kind of events that will continue the Travel 2.0 tradition of being friendly, productive and a great place to learn about the future of the travel industry. I'm so looking forward to seeing him get the meetups back on a consistent schedule, and I'm sure I'll be seeing you at some of them.

Stay tuned for an announcement about the next event from Bill shortly!

Hey 2.0'ers,

I haven't been able to run a meetup for the group since last September, so I hope you've been getting your dose of NYC travel tech with Voyager!

I've been speaking with Phocuswright and Voyager about running a networking event together with our group soon, so stay tuned for details on that.

For now, I wanted to let everyone know that Phocuswright will be hosting our first standalone startup Battleground event at the Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale, CA on September 12.

I've always felt that Phocuswright events create the most productive networking environment in the travel industry. For $200, the Battleground will replicate the environment of The Phocuswright Conference at 1/20th of the cost (a ticket to the Nov conference is $4,200), and will be jam-packed with ideas and opportunities, featuring:
  • 16 pitches from the most promising travel startups across the Americas
  • Keynote from Sam Shank, Co-Founder & CEO of HotelTonight
  • Panel conversation with top investors and entrepreneurs about the state of innovation and investment in travel
  • Phocuswright research presentation on the State of Travel Startups in 2017 (presented by yours truly!)
  • An evening of networking with the investors, industry executives and entrepreneurs in attendance
You can use code "Meetup17" to register to get $25 off. Register here.

Also, if you’d like to apply to compete as a startup, you can do so here. (the deadline to apply is coming up soon on July 31)

Hope to see you there!

P.S. In my last email, I had asked if anyone wants to help run this group and I know a few of you replied but I didn't get back to you. Sorry! If anyone is still interested, please let me know and I'll prioritize.

Hey 2.0'ers,

It's been a while! Lots of updates to share.

Recently I took a new full-time position with Phocuswright as Manager of Research and Innovation. If you're not familiar with Phocuswright, they're the travel industry research authority and they run some of the most influential conferences where industry leaders gather and startups compete for recognition.

So first things first, I want to share that Phocuswright is running a startup pitch competition at our Europe conference May 16-18 in Amsterdam and there are just a couple of spots left. We also have discounted conference tickets available for founders with a startup less than 4 years old who have never attended a Phocuswright event before. Pitching or just attending are both great opportunities to reach decision-makers in Europe. Email me for details if interested and check out the conference website here:

Back in NYC, I wanted to let everyone know that is coming up on April 20-23, with a tech/startup focus on Saturday April 22 at Bohemian National Hall (UES Manhattan). For the last 3 years I have run full-day Travel 2.0 content tracks at NYTF, but this year I can't make it so Bill Beckler, co-founder of, and Dmitry Koltunov and Alex Shashou, co-founders of, will be stepping in to host an informative talk and a panel discussion all about travel startups. You may remember their entertaining and enlightening sessions at NYTF last April and The CTO Show meetup in August. There will be other tech and startup-focused content that day too, check out the full schedule here:

Also in NYC, VoyagerHQ has a couple of events coming up that look great:

And out in San Francisco, will be held May 22-24. They're having a pitch competition where I'll be a judge, and lots of in-depth content sessions. (full schedule here)

I hope to be running more 2.0's soon, but it's tougher for me these days since I moved further south from Manhattan. Would anyone here like to help plan and run events for the group?
