All reservations for group tours and excursions, plus spa and dinner reservations will be made by this Friday! Your response is MANDATORY, even if you plan on opting out of all this and dinner reservations. Transportation will be booked only on total number of responses received for each tour. * I WILL NOT book the optional tours, but I will place you with other guests that are signing up for the same options, and you will pick a date and time that works best for your schedule. Furthermore, several of you checked optional tours during the time frame in which you will be offsite at the scheduled tour. Look forward to receiving an email from me on next week for clarification.

I have received questions specifically from new travelers, so I'll try to clarify and simplify a few things... Agenda is designed according to options pre chosen by the group, and based on majority wins. The agenda schedule is NOT REQUIRED to be followed. You simply create a vacation that works for your budget and your preferred taste. Therefore, if you want to go Hiking to the Volcano, Rappel down the mountain side or waterfall, Flyboard, Surf, Mountain biking, or simply stay in your hotel room the entire time..... The choice is yours. If your preferred tour options did not make the final agenda, you simply book it separately through your company of choice. You are welcome to get my opinion and to help with transportation, but you will book and pay directly to the company. Basically, Your Money, Your Vacation

REMINDER: Only deposits made by Nov 1 will hold your space ($250). Monthly payment plans will be set up as soon as the flight schedule is released.

The 2nd hotel will be confirmed and booked after Nov, when I have a more definitely guest count, in order to NOT have to increase the cost due to cancellations. Group blocks require 10 rooms, and therefore, it may be too risky to do. I have more flexibility on the resort in Arenal, and that has been reserved, and rooms can be added as needed.

    • Shaniqua E.

Why not? We do not do EVERYTHING together, so therefore, it should not pose a problem. We will only be together as a group for the 1st day Meet-N-Greet, and on the last day Catamaran Cruise that I am planning. Men will not interfere with our fun, so therefore, it should not pose a problem. But, since he is not in the group, payments will need to be sent in through a GEM member. Members have the responsibility of sending in payments on behalf of their guests, so that liability is taken off of me.

Update.....if i move days to May 3 to May 8, we can save approximately $200. Since April is high season, the hotels are charging premium prices.

With high end options as you have requested, plus including an all inclusive option, price in April will average $1600 to 1700pp without excursions or transportation. In May, we would average $1400 to $1500pp without excursions or transportation

Deposits are not required until after contracts are signed. Plus, I'm trying to still finalize all payments for Puerto Rico in order for me to allow accepting more payments for a new trip. I should be ready to accept deposits by Nov 1 of $150, then monthly payment plans will be set up for 6 months, Dec to Apr. Contract terms are very strict for Costa Rica since this is high season, and they are requiring larger deposits. Therefore, keep in mind cancelation will be at a premium, so travel insurance will be suggested in case of unforseen family or personal matters

Please keep in mind the flight schedule will not be out until November, therefore, I'll have to guesstimate cost based on rates from April, therefore, cost is subject to change for those wishing to fly Southwest, which is my preferred airline for the group. Much better customer service and ease of contracts, and 2 free bags.

    • Nisha

Are we flying into Liberia or San Jose?

      September 28

    • Shaniqua E.

Liberia, b/c it is cheaper, and has much better arrival and departure times. San Juan gets you in after 7p, and you have to depart on a 7a flight. My preference was to fly into San Juan and out of Liberia, in order to maximize on time, and see more of the country, considering that Liberia is 4hrs from San Juan, and things to do, such as the Arenal Volcano and Monteverde Cloudforest. But, there are similar options in the Guanacaste region. Plus, there are beaches near Liberia, along with access to ziplining, river tubing, white water rafting, as well as a volcanic park and waterfalls. Based on excursions, plus beach, plus better flight schedule, I have chosen to stay in the Guanacaste region.

April is considered dry season, and one of the most popular times to travel. Rainy season begins May with most rain being in Sept and Oct. Therefore rates may be a little higher than expected, but i have excellent negotiation skills, and I'll make something happen that will affordable to the desired budget, which seems to be $1300 to $1600 according to the survey. Keep in mind, this may get you breakfast, but can't promise all inclusive as you have Check out weather here:

Marquia, i can definitely use your help and advice. We will be traveling to and from Liberia since flights in and out of San Jose are overpriced and have inconvenient arrival and departure times....i.e. we could arrive by 730p, and we could depart by 730a. Not trying to do either.

Interesting survey feedback. Avg 18 ppl want an all inclusive luxury vacation on a beach property, but only 3 of you are willing to pay the price. Hmmmm.....y'all want me to work a miracle.

Keep in mind that Costa Rica is mainly Forest and Nature, not known for beautiful beaches, like we are accustomed to in Mexico, Aruba, Florida, etc. Also, keep in mind, the country is spread out....the beach is not near the hot springs, nor volcano, nor hot springs. There will be lots of traveling to various places. We will be lodging in 2 separate properties, but I'll try and accommodate the majority.

Southwest opened their schedule only through April 24. Anything past this date won't be available until November. Therefore I'm going to move the travel days up to the week prior. Hopefully this doesn't interfere with anyone's original plans. New days will be April 19-24 or 20-24. Survey to be sent based on preferred time.... 6/5 nights or 5/4 nights. I may be able to keep the cost at around $1500 and include 1-2 excursions and transportation. Everything is pretty spread out in Costa Rica, therefore we will spent 2 days on the beach, and 2 days near the volcano or jungle. More planning to do, but things are underway. If we need to push the days to April 27, it would have to be at the discretion of the period negotiated contracts. Deposits of $100 will be due soon within the next month after contracts have been negotiated with the hotel and air. Be on the lookout for more communications. If you would like to help plan this vacation and join the travel committee, please email me

    2 · August 5

  • Shaniqua E.

Extended Flight schedule for Southwest opens Aug 4th, which will open up travel dates for Match and April. I will confirm group flight at that time and compare cost between AA and SW. Do not purchase individual flights until I set confirmed travel dates.

    3 · July 18

  • Shaniqua E.

UPDATE: Southwest flights are averaging only $430 in early March, and the schedule has not been posted yet past the first week in March. If flights stay under $500, the possibility has increased to continue with this vacation. Unsure of a cost at this time, but continue putting money aside. Thanks for your patience

    5 · July 17

  • Shaniqua E.

UPDATE: Decision to keep this trip will be based solely upon the cost of the flight. Hotels are always negotiable. Currently, flights are avg $700+, which is definitely not within the budget that I have set aside for this vacation. With a $700 flight, but additional hotel and excursion cost, we are looking at about $1500pp, which can be better spent in another country (in my opinion).

If any of you see flights on sale, or have ideas for other countries to include: Europe, Spain, Jamaica, Dubai, etc., please let me know, so I can secure a few group seats. Specifically, I would like to stay at $550 or less.

In case of cancellation, although I really wanted to go to Costa Rica, you will be notified far in advance. I am open to your suggestions and ideas.

For those that will be inviting other guests, you will be responsible for payment on their behalf, unless I choose to use an outside agency. Also, regarding rooming assignments, quad will only be allowed for GEMS that have traveled previously. Other than that, quad will have to be approved on behalf of all guest sharing a room.
