Focus stacking involves the act of shooting several photographs to later merge them together into an image that has more depth of field than can be obtained in one single photo even at your highest f/stop. This process is ideal for macro photographs and landscape photographs alike. Macro stacking can be performed with computer programs such as Adobe Photo Merge, Helicon Soft or Styrene. Helicon Soft or Styrene are programs that can be tethered to your camera and computer, even take control of your camera to shoot 10-20 photos to be later combined, using that computer, then process it into one photo to create a depth-of-field not possible in the actual shot.
