Kayak at Winton Woods this Sunday

Let's kayak Winton Woods north of Cinci right off I-275 West. This is a very scenic 165 acre narrow and twisty lake with is perfect for kayaks. The plan is to kayak the east section of the lake for approx 2 hours and then take a break at their very nice pavillion, which has food, drinks and ice cream. After the break, for those that want to continue, we'll do the west side of the lake for approx 2 hours up a narrow feeder stream until we can't go further. Naturally, time is an estimate because I do stop for wildlife, pictures, bio-breaks, paddling speed and having fellow kayakers save me when I flip over (jk).

Pls be aware that the Hamilton Park district has a $3 per car entrance fee so carpooling is recommended, or you can buy an annual pass to all of the Hamilton parks for $10.

You can rent kayaks and canoe for $10 per hour (2012 pricing) for a single, or $13 per hour for a tandem which is very reasonable. They have 6 singles and 2 tandems, they don't take reservations but if you tell them you are part of a group they may reserve one for you. Call the boathouse at[masked]-1849. I will limit this meetup to 10 people so kayak and/or canoe rentals will be available. Pls let me know if you have your own kayak/canoe.

Check out Winton Woods at www.greatparks.org/parks/winton-woods.html

There is a downloadable map at the bottom of this website.

Pls arrive at 9:30AM if you are going to rent to get fitted for your life jacket, paddle and kayak. Also, I recommend you bring a stadium type seat cushion for your kayak for better comfort. I would like to shove at at 10:00AM so everyone can plan their day.

Bring 16oz of water/gatoraid per hour you plan to kayak, sunscreen, hat, protein bar, and a large zip lock bag for your keys, wallet, phone etc.

Was a great day. Thanks to all for great conversation and hope to meet up with everyone again soon. My son also enjoyed all... he works too much! We both learned alittle bit more about kayaking.

I've paddled the lake many times but first time through the "tunnel". Have to go back soon and do the other half as time did not permit today. Thanks for organizing a great outting.

We could not have had a more beautiful first day of fall 2013. So much wildlife, fowl on the lake to see. Turtles everywhere. Air clean and fresh. Perfect time.

If you have your own kayak, it's easier to put in at the put instead of the pavilion. Is that where you'll be putting in? Easy to meet up there.

Yes, there is a kayak put in to the left of the pavilion. There is a large parking lot and you'll need to drag your kayak down.

Have spent many hours on Winton Lake. Wouldn't hurt to bring a garbage bag to pick up trash. I usually have a bag to pick up stuf floating in the water. Hopefully the weather will be as nice as last weekend. Looking foward to meeting everyone.
