Tidy Paddle

Here is the plan:
After speaking with a few members, there seemed to be an interest to paddle and
do a little community service. 14 members turned out for the first Tidy Paddle!

We will meet up the last Thursday of each month at the New Richmond Kayak Ramp to splash around the Mighty Ohio, after policing the ramp area.

The idea is to meet before push off time to police the area around the landing/ramp, and pick up any flotsam that may have found a home from the rise and fall of the river. Some supplies will be provided. There shouldn’t be too much to do, as long as the river behaves itself.

The goal is for the Tri-State Kayakers to adopt the landing and help the village keep it squared away till some grant $$ can be awarded next year.

When – March[masked], and then the last Thursday of each month.

Time - Clean up starts at 6:00, in the water by 6:30.

Where – The New Richmond canoe/kayak ramp, which is located next to The Landing Restaurant at the corner of Front and Quarry Sts. GPS: N[masked] x W084 17.092.

Experience - You should have paddling experience for this paddle. The goal is to be back around 8pm, but bring your Nav light as it may be getting dark as we paddle back to the landing.

Please note this Nav light reminder:

Vessels under Oars
(OAC[masked])
“A vessel under oars... shall have an electric torch or lighted lantern showing a white light in sufficient time to prevent collision.” One that is visible for 360 degrees is best! Remember, your butt is on the water with the highest point being the top of your head. Boaters approaching from astern can’t see your headlamp! Making yourself as visible as possible is THE LAW & YOUR RESPONABILTY!

Pre-Paddle - Everyone is responsible for their own grub and fluids.

What To Bring - Yak / PFD - life vest (must be securely worn and fully buckled) / warm weather clothing / water/ bug spray / lights/camera. Come on, you know what you need, we’re adults here!

The Green Kayak Market, at 204 Front St. in New Richmond, has kayaks for rent. Check their web site at www.greenkayakmarket.com or call Chris at[masked] for more details.

Restrooms - Restroom close by.

Weather Forecast – Will be given two days out.

River Forecast – Same as weather.

Post-Paddle Sustenance – Green Kayak Market

Liability Waiver - As always, by joining in this event you are acknowledging that you have read and agree to abide by the Tri-State Kayakers liability waiver. You can find this waiver on the Tri-State Kayakers web site, at: http://www.meetup.com/Tri-State-Kayakers/pages/Legal_Waiver/

LOL! I'll come on out to help and say hi. Got some gloves and big bags for the cleanup. Won't be bringing the kayak since it's storming now.

Just looked at the radar......looks like it may be breaking up.....Again, I won't be paddeling as we are headed out of town in the morning. I was hoping to get in a few hours cleaning up after the high water, so unless it's pouring at 5pm, I will be at the ramp.

The weather may be ify for a paddle so use your own judgement! If you want to help, great; if not, no worries!

We are still on! I won't be able to paddle, but will be at the Kayak Landing by 5pm, if anyone wants to come down early.

A lot of drift wood needs to be moved & burned, before the ramp can be used.

Those that want to enjoy an evening paddle on the Mighty Ohio are welcomed to do so.

    Hope to see you there!
