HTML has grown up and the lines separating web, desktop and mobile applications are getting blurrier every day. This is due in part to HTML5's new cutting-edge features that help developers create web applications with the features and performance of traditional desktop applications. In this opening session of the HTML5/CSS3 series, you will learn exactly what HTML5 is and while there are new semantic markup features, you will learn that HTML5 encompasses more than markup. HTML5's new JavaScript APIs introduce a wide variety of new capabilities including geolocation, local storage, drawing with the canvas, video & audio playback and more. Any discussion of web/mobile technologies would be woefully inadequate without a review of some of the new features in CSS3 like animation, drop shadows, rounded corners and media queries. Subsequent sessions in this series will drill down into specific HTML5 features to provide a better understanding of how and why to use these powerful and exciting new capabilities that HTML5 brings to a browser near you.
