Elevate - A Discussion on Ignored Policy Issues

This election, the national media has been focused on nuances of the Obama and Romney campaigns. This election season has been lacking a substantive discussion of issues important to Americans. Without a doubt, the current economic stagnation and jobs crisis is on everyone's mind. But our nation's leaders will also have to address other complex issues over the next four years.

Elevate - A Discussion on Ignored Policy Issues will feature speakers to highlight these issues and elevate the political discourse this election cycle beyond talking points and one-liner quotes. This event will take place on September 20th at Reynolds Theater on Duke's campus from 7-9pm.

Speakers include:
Gary Johnson - Libertarian candidate for President
John Glaser - Assistant Editor at Antiwar.com
Robert Shibley - Senior Vice President of The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education
Barbara Howe - Libertarian candidate for Governor in North Carolina
More to come!

This event is sponsored by the Duke College Libertarians. Co-Sponsors include Duke Political Union, Duke College Republicans, The Roosevelt Institute at Duke and the NCSU Young Americans for Liberty. More co-sponsors to be announced soon!

There will be a significant amount of media present and we have a real opportunity to show them that the Libertarian movement is growing strong. If we fill this 550 person theater it has the potential to start a firestorm of media coverage about the growing enthusiasm for Gary Johnson and the Libertarian Party. But it won't happen without your help. Please invite all your friends and bring your family, this event is open to everyone! Tickets will not be required for this event though they will be handed out at the door to make sure we comply with fire code.

The event will be interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The four speakers talked about Drug legalization (I am very much in favor), FIRE (speaker talked too fast for me to understand him), War (good points made by speaker, and Presidential candidacy. Very interesting, but overly optimistic. On Balance, I have to make it 75% out of 100.
