What we're about

This group is intended to provide a sense of community for those wishing to transition to a healthy vegan plant-based diet and lifestyle as well as for those of us who have been plant-based for a long time. It's always nice to be around, and to share activities with, like-minded people.

This is part of a non profit named The Triangle Plant Based Community. We'll be sharing nutritional information through our facebook page at www.facebook.com/TrianglePBC. Like this meetup group, our facebook page is a work in progress, but the idea is to share information and meet others that share our goals and values. I hope you join us.

Cary Ampitheatre Movie Night: Jurassic World

8003 Regency Pkwy

Felisa and I have had fun watching movies at the Ampitheatre before. The doors open at 7:00, the movie usually starts at 8:30. Bring chairs (or blanket), snacks and drinks and you're good to go. If we meet at 7:00 we can probably get ourselves in a pretty good location. Tickets are $5.00 each, we bought ours in advance from here: https://www.boothamphitheatre.com/wakemed-movies-by-moonlight/ I think this is the 2015 Jurassic World movie. We haven't seen it, but they made sequels so it must have been okay. Regardless, it'll probably be fun.

Greenway Bike Ride Near Lake Crabtree

2139 Old Reedy Creek Rd

I'm re-scheduling this because of bad weather. If you like to bike ride at a relaxed pace this meetup might be for you. We'll meet at the Old Reedy Creek Trailhead and ride for about 3 miles (6 miles round trip) along the new greenway on the south side of Lake Crabtree and into Morrisville. We'll take a break near the Cedar Fork District Park. They have picnic tables and restrooms at the park. We've done this ride a couple times and it's really nice and super safe.

Food For Life - Health Topics: Introduction to How Foods Fight Diabetes

Food For Life is an award winning nutrition education and cooking program designed by the physicians, nurses, and dietitians at the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). The registration fee is intended to cover costs related to registration, facility rental, food cost, material cost, and equipment cost. This class covers an Introduction to How Foods Fight Diabetes. It is part of the plant-based nutrition and cooking program for type 2 diabetes prevention and treatment developed by the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine. The intended audience for this program is people with diabetes, pre-diabetes, a family history or risk factors for developing diabetes, and their adult family members. It is also designed to introduce health care professionals to the basics of plant-based nutrition for preventing and treating diabetes. Diabetes is a major public health problem of epidemic proportions. More than 12 percent of the U.S. adult population has diabetes, and more than one-quarter of the population over 65 has the disease. One out of four people with diabetes is unaware they have it, which means they are not being treated with a healthy diet or medications. Uncontrolled, diabetes can lead to complications from head to toe, including stroke, loss of vision, heart disease, kidney failure, and various problems due to nerve damage and circulatory problems, such as erectile dysfunction or lower-extremity amputation.
