Celebrate the Winter Solstice

  • Dec 21, 2013 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

It is time again to celebrate the true reason for the season--the Winter Solstice occurs on Saturday this year. The party starts at sun down (officially at 5:23 PM) with the lighting of the bonfire. As in years past, it is a potluck. There will be plenty of beer, eggnog, and soft drinks. Please state what you're bringing when you RSVP so that others will know what to bring themselves. We usually have a couple of hams. There is always something for everyone at our Winter Celebration including, hanging out around the fire, chatting in the exercise room, games in the workshop, drinking in the dining room, and singing Karaoke in the living room.

Thank you very much to Don and Nancy for opening your home to us all, and for putting together such a great party. I've been to all of them, and they just keep getting better. Thanks especially to Don for letting me help with the fire lighting ceremony - glad i didn't mess it up!

My veggie dish turned into pumpkin rice pudding. Vegan. But there's sugar!

Loved the pumpkin rice pudding. Kept me going past 3 AM!

We are bringing potato salad. It's vegan, and absolutely legendary, at least i think so. Can't wait to share it and see everyone!

Another terrific party at the Lacey's. Thanks to Don and Nancy for all the hard work they did to show the rest of us a good time. CAH was a blast, and very educational. I now know how to do Jazz Hands, and where to find my grundle.

I got to go in there just for moment looking for the karaoke board, and got an ear-full of "education" myself Steve! ;-) Glad you had fun.

Another fantastic night of Solstice Awesomeness! A thousand thanks to Don and Nancy for again opening their lovely home and for the dozens to hundreds of hours of planning and labor expended to make this party such a huge success!

Thank you. We'll have the house back to the "normal configuration" in a couple of days. Special thanks to you and your sister for hanging out and helping us close the party down. It was SO helpful!

Nancy and Don, thank you again for a magnificent party! As always you are such fabulous and gracious hosts! I cannot say enough about how great the both of you are to everyone and how welcome you have made me feel this past year. And I know the friendships I've made this year will last a lifetime. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! Putting into perspective this time of renewal, I've learned that we must put away the heartaches, heartbreaks and hardships of the past, of which we've all endured this past year, and throw them into the fire! Let them go and start a new. Otherwise we are just destined to repeat them and fall into the fire with them and get burned again! This is what this solstice time has taught me.

I have been working long hours all week and slept through most of the day. I just woke up about 2 hours ago and immediately started cooking my chili and now that it is done and ready to transport I have a chance to ask a question. Is there room for me to stay the night? If so, I'll bring my CPAP because I don't want to die in my sleep at your house. LOL

A word about parking...Nancy and I live in Rita Ranch. You can find an overhead view of the housing area here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15084589/My%20Neighborhood%20Parking.png (The areas marked in green are OK places to park.)
If you'd like you can park in the Safeway shopping center that is nearby at Nexus and Valencia and walk the short distance to our house. The Vantage West Credit Union is closed after 1 PM on Saturday and there should be plenty of parking there. (We could also send someone to pick you up from the parking lot if you call the house[masked]

Dress warm for the celebration. The weather report says that these extremely warm days will give way to normal temperatures on Friday. There may be some showers on Saturday morning. In any case, it will not dampen our spirits or the celebration. Nancy and I are taking advantage of these warm days and we have now opened up two 12' x 12' indoor spaces in the house and in the workshop. Remember the fire will be lit at 5:23. It's getting close, and I can hardly wait!
