The subject of this meeting is "In the end, it's about choice." As nontheists, we want to be able to make choices based on rational reasons and would like our choices to be respected and perhaps, if there is judgement, judged on the strength of our logic and secular reasoning. Making decisions for others, while popular, is something we should avoid especially if the decisions don't affect us in any way. Laws should be made for the common good and not be based on mythological beliefs.
In this meeting we'll discuss the build up to the latest Supreme Court decision. We'll talk about the genesis of RFRA (the Religious Freedom Restoration Act) and how it led to the latest decision. We'll also map out what can and should be done in the future to effect change in the right direction.
This is a new meeting place...and it's so much nicer!
This is a recurring meeting. The group meets on the third Monday of the month at the Coco's on Broadway (http://www.cocosbakery.com/). The meeting officially begins at 7PM but many people choose to meet earlier to socialize before the meeting. I start setting up equipment around 6 and enjoy the company while I get the equipment ready for the meeting.
